Finally finished the Ninth Doctor season. Whole season was ehh.

and yeah. By giving us something modern fans have never seen, they've revitalized the character, IMHO. A lot of New Who fans don't feel that way, but that's on them.

9 was really a combination of 5 and 8.

10 was a combination of 4 and 9.

11 was a combination of 4 on jelly babies (which I still think was the Time Lord equivalent of methamphetamines or cocaine) and 10.

Capaldi is a combination of the "mean, dark and evil" doctors. 1, 6 and 7. It may turn off viewers who miss that playfulness and whimsy (which is actually still there, but only through playful word banter and insults), but it's VERY refreshing.

Matt Smith's run made me stop watching at first. It wasn't until I watched The Pandorica Opens EARLY THIS YEAR that I realized I was wrong and picked the series back up. Dude became one of my favorite iterations. Prolly 4th or 5th.

This feels like a VAST improvement.

:dead:

I've liked all of the portrayals of the modern Doctor but Capaldi feels like a throwback to the classic era and I think that's great. He's actually already my favorite of the modern era. He's got great funny one-liners but he's arrogant and grumpy and short-tempered. I love all his put-downs on Clara. I like what I've seen of 10 & 11 but they both feel like the same hipster goofball. I definitely see elements of 1, 4 and 6 in Capaldi's version.

It's sort of like... reed richards+dr. doom+indiana jones. In a time machine.
I would add Sherlock Holmes as well.

The 12th might be my favorite of the whole lot, it's not really a competition because he (or the writers) get to look at 12 (including war doctor) doctors and pick their favorite things.

I loved Tennant/Matt Smith but BBC was obviously trying to appease to a whole new fanbase with them. I'm glad they had the balls to go with Capaldi, and to be honest I was expecting the ratings to plummet which they haven't.

Liked this past episode a lot and as much as I was already cool with the intro of Danny Pink, this episode solidified him as a favorite just by the way he stood up to the Doctor. Most of the Companion's boyfriends just took the Doctor's verbal abuse but Mr. Pink was not having it.

Wonder if we will be seeing a future version of Courtney as a Companion when she is less of a disruptive influence and won't get sick every time she travels in the Tardis.

Maybe it's because I started watching with the new doctors but Capaldi doctor isn't exactly my cup of tea. I as introduced to Eccleston version of Doctor who that I liked but he only got one season and I really came to lov the show with David Tennant' version of the Doctor, Mat Smith was really just a continuation.

I can say from The new Doctors my favorite episodes are The Empty child/The doctor dances, and the girl in the fire place

I like that Capaldi is playing a grumpier, less likable Doctor. It got to the point with Tennant and Smith where the show was too wrapped up in their status as "teen idols" that it got distracting to me as a viewer.

Eccleston's edge was why I liked him more than Tennant and Smith. I like my Doctor to be a bit rough around the edges and dismissive of humans.

That' where we disagree, bc I think Tennant had that edge, especially the episodes with Donna :manny:

I almost feel like the whole role of Clara hasn't been to be The Doctor's disembodied morality pet, but it's almost like they've been using her as the embodiment of the show's female "fangirl" base that it's build since the new run started.

And just like The Doctor has been inadvertently doing with Clara, the new Doctor has been alienating the entire lot of them.

The Doctor: "I've made many mistakes. And it's about time I did something about that. Clara, I'm not your boyfriend."

Clara: "I never thought you were!"

The Doctor: "I never said it was your mistake."

It has to be maddening for her, though. You save this nikka throughout his entire history, even to the point you comforted him as a child, you spend a great part of your adult life with him dragging you along while he's holding your hand and always hugging you.....

He suddenly goes bad on you like milk and cheese. :demonic:

it's two different "edges" though.

Eccleson's edge was all rage, anger and grief.

Tennants was dealing with someone like Donna while he was still.... in Doctor age, a child. Dude died when he was 7 years old.

Finally watched the last two episodes. Good stuff. The show has a good balance between light-hearted episodes, horror and drama. 'The Caretaker' felt like a whimsical comedy for the first half. The final scene of 'Kill the Moon' with Clara telling off the Doctor was good stuff. Beginning of the end for Clara, brehs. :mjcry:
