Another good episode (but confusing to me). I'm starting to lose hope that this season will live up to what they seemingly promised -- the Doctor going back to correct his past misdeeds. I was really hoping to see some worlds, friends and foes from previous eras. I still think that would be a good idea for a season.

Also, if the cloister bell went off, that means something legit was out there. I need to know what it was. :whoo:

7th Doctor was bout that life :demonic:
I've only seen clips of that era. Eh. Not really looking forward to it, but I'm a little over half-way into the Sixth Doctor run and will continue on with the Seventh. The 7th era looks really sloppy to me but I'm interested in this darker version of the Doctor I often have read about. I wonder why BBC let Seven go dark but not Six (who wanted to dress all in black) like was originally intended?

You aren't going to see Seven go dark on TV unless you look at the subtext.

It's very much 80's coke goof. Especially up to Remembrance of the Daleks.

But if you pay attention, you'll realize The Doctor is taking his companion to all the places she fears the most. They had a longerm plan, but BBC cancelled it before they took it where they wanted the show to go.

edit: now that I think about it, he did
In the same story, at the end he defeats Mordred by seemingly putting his hand on his head and giving him a sharp mental shock which knocks him out. He simply states that "Time and Time Lords wait for no man". (TV: Battlefield)

this exact same thing to young Danny last night.

Another good episode. Capaldi quickly on his way to becoming my favorite of the modern Doctors. :banderas:

I did like Saibra's character, and they did looked all happy together on the TARDIS once the mission was over
Yep, had me like :obama: seeing them all in the TARDIS.

and yeah. By giving us something modern fans have never seen, they've revitalized the character, IMHO. A lot of New Who fans don't feel that way, but that's on them.

9 was really a combination of 5 and 8.

10 was a combination of 4 and 9.

11 was a combination of 4 on jelly babies (which I still think was the Time Lord equivalent of methamphetamines or cocaine) and 10.

Capaldi is a combination of the "mean, dark and evil" doctors. 1, 6 and 7. It may turn off viewers who miss that playfulness and whimsy (which is actually still there, but only through playful word banter and insults), but it's VERY refreshing.

Matt Smith's run made me stop watching at first. It wasn't until I watched The Pandorica Opens EARLY THIS YEAR that I realized I was wrong and picked the series back up. Dude became one of my favorite iterations. Prolly 4th or 5th.

This feels like a VAST improvement.

Nah, it's not. Not specifically. The Doctor can be rather childish at times, so it can feel that way.

Edit: the show is basically this.

There's this dude who's lived for 2000+ years. He has a time machine that can go anywhere and anywhen. So he does. A great amount of time, out of boredom.

But a lot of the time, it's to fix problems he comes across. Sometimes small, sometimes on a universal scale.

Because he has no one like him, he gets lonely. So he brings along people that interest him. Sometimes (like this one), it's only to remind him that he's a good person. He can be very... detatched and wraithful, and will bring down whole civilizations and destroy planets if you push him too far. Despite this, he's really a pacifist and will out think a problem

And because he's been doing this a very long time and has made a lot of enemies (from gangsters to other races to HP Lovecraft-like monsters from outside the universe), sometimes he dies. Imagine if James Bond movies sometimes ended with him being killed and changing into the next dude to play James Bond.

It's sort of like... reed richards+dr. doom+indiana jones. In a time machine.

And one more thing. There isn't any "Doctor Who". He's "The Doctor".
