Do you ever think about how powerful movies are?

Movies are...

  • Just movies, breh. Don't overthink it.

  • Quite strange if you think about it. More than meets the eye in that sense.

There’s a reason they call it programming

Literally telling us “welcome back to your regularly scheduled programming” and no one thinks anything of it :francis:
the scarier thought is what would be in its place if there was no programming?

these conspiracy "make you think" threads are always interesting because of the rebel trope always present

but people...what would you do when you escape the evil empire to find whats outside of the custom made for you yolk/shell?

Yeah but then you stop caring. Who could honestly say that a movie made a lasting change to their life or to their attitude about something. The sympathy machine runs out of sympathy once it runs out of film
That's not quite what happens

Media indoctrinates you as a child. Once you reach a certain mental saturation point you're less susceptible to the forms of media that fall outside of your constructed worldview

There are the few outliers that sneak in during your adult years but overall once you become the sum total of the media that raised you you're more or less content with who you are

Unless you're not which may make you more susceptible to new media with the potential to motivate you out of your current state:manny: this is the power behind movies like Fight Club

If you scared, just say you’re scared.

But movies and any type of visual media is more influential than music. I was watching a white shark doc the other day, and this Australian dude said he wanted to start hunting white sharks after Jaws dropped. Not to mention, all of the people who wanted to get it like tony Montana from Scarface.
I disagree here because music can alter mental states in a fraction of the time it takes for a movie to have the same effect

Music is the most powerful drug there is

^ Look at your gym playlist for example then ponder if we all would've got as wild as we did back when as reckless jits if it wasn't for the soundtrack that OK'd and glorified it...

There's layers to this and most never even scratch the surface due to the unexamined lives they live.

Entertrainment in full effect.

I'll see your talking in circles and raise you:

Big Bear is surrounded by Big Bears. This could be read in a couple of ways. It can be seen as a negation of his character. By seeing actual big bears around him, we're reminded of the fact that he himself is not actually a big bear, but a human being.

The pleasures of life are seemingly not enjoyed by himself, but by the bears surrounding him. The cigars they're smoking are bigger, their diamonds are shinier. They've got huge cups filled with, probably alcohol. Big Bear on the other hand is looking thirsty. The smoke the bear on the right is blowing is heading to cover Big Bear's face. A very self explanatory imagery of a mirage. It is like he's tearing himself away from the Bear on the left, their robes still attached to each other, but ready to rip into independence.

For all the nutritious fruit and cigars on the table, Big Bear doesn't seem to be enjoying himself much. As we all know, capitalism forces us to put on a mirage everyday. Like Big Bear, we have to put on a persona to survive because the raw reality is too soul crushing for us to bear.

This album cover seems to signal a small proletarian revolution with Big Bear releasing himself from his persona, no longer enjoying capitalism's promises but ready to be himself. And when you have reached who you truly are, the call for liberation will ring. True liberation cannot be enjoyed alone, as long as the masses don't profit from the same thing. But simultaneously, the name Big Bear is dripping in honey, a sticky substance. It signals how hard it is too let a persona go once you've established it. The bears behind him can be seen as gatekeepers, keeping him trapped in capitalist ideology. Big Bear is ready for a proletarian revolution, but has to battle himself before he can battle for the masses.

Music can heighten your senses, but music videos will root the concept in your brain.

Yea but that does more for my point. A music video ain't a movie

The video works in service of the song, which is still doing the work of a movie at a fraction of the output

since you all are touching on music I'm gonna drop a gem
be careful because this guy (though very long winded) - the information he provides will kinda mess up some of your favorite songs forever. He's good at unveiling the lyrics.

The visual is what makes it “real”.

Play a song for someone who never met or saw NBA young boy and they won’t know what he looks like nor be able to connect to the lyrics of the song, besides possibly the bop.

Let them watch the same video of the song and now they can see exactly what he rapping about, possibly become influenced by how he dresses, mannerisms, and whatever else is displayed. You can’t achieve that sync without a visual.
