OK, here's the thing...

Jackie Jackson sang on some of the Jackson 5's biggest hits... 'The Love You Save', 'ABC', 'I'll Be There'... had parts that everybody knows and loves on those songs. Clearly his voice plays a role in a number of their hits.

But when they did the Jacksons movie... are you that surprised he didn't get as prominent a role as Michael and Jermaine did?

I really don't feel Ren got jerked in this movie, especially after I've watched it more than once. Anybody who was an NWA fan, in spite of how dope Ren was, shoulda known going in that the three prominent members of the group were gonna get the bulk of the attention in the movie. It's a no-brainer. Everybody's talking about the inaccuracies in the movie, but how realistic would it have been for all 5 members to get equal attention, when all 5 members didn't get equal attention in real life?

i don't think most people are acting like he needed the amount of screen time cube dre and eazy got, but i also saw it twice, i can't remember one place where he spoke more than four sentences in a scene, you don't see or hear them mention his writing other than the no vaseline scene, they worked in a pac scene but couldn't work a "ren went plat" line into a dialogue somewhere? i did not expect him to be a tentpole, but his contributions were glossed over. i mean, dude coulda been seen handing his lyrics to the group at least once, cube had every shot handing over lyrics

Problem is realistically at the time when NWA was popular MC Ren wasnt 'Jackie Jackson'. At the time Dr. Dre was behind the scenes as he was a producer and DJ. At the time MC Ren was much more well known that Dr Dre. Popularity wise at the time...

Tier One: Easy E ~> Ice Cube

Tier Two: MC Ren

Tier Three: Dr Dre ~> DJ Yella

Tier Four: Arabian Prince (not known unless you were an NWA fanatic)

Dre became much more publically well known after NWA than he was during NWA. The Chronic is what really took Dre to another level as far as recognition...

Now I dont have a problem with a movie being a movie... at all. However I am just calling it what it is...

The key interesting fact about it is that somehow history has been rewritten to the point where you are actually thinking Dr Dre was a bigger star in 1988 than MC Ren.and thats why the biopic focused on him your clearly bought into the reimagining of history... Dre was mostly behind the scenes in those days... i vaguely remember Dre from 'express yourself'... Point of fact MC Ren was the one who was doing the majority of the ghost writing in the prime NWA days, and Dre wasnt doing all of the production..

Reality is Easy E was the face and the brains of the group
MC Ren did most of the writing
Dre AND DJ Yella did the production with some help from Arabian Prince

Ice cube realistically was a major contributer on ONE NWA album before he split up, and more than half of that album was written by Ren while Ice Cube was away at school...

Just saying the victors write the textbooks...

Yella got more shine imo.
Only because he was used as comic relief, they didn't really go into much detail about what he brought to the group. It's at least acknowledged that Ren rapped and wrote parts of the songs before and after Cube left.

The movie made it seem like Dre did ALL the production while Yella just hung out and searched for p*ssy. Neither had a story arc tho.

They said the only reason yella really got in was because dre vouched for him. He mostly just assisted dre with the board but he knew how to play the drums.

I always heard it more collaborative than that but who knows.

Was Arabian Prince even mentioned in the movie? The film made it seem like DOC was the unofficial sixth member. His character was present the majority of the movie.
