he was reduced to backup singer status, nikka was a hypeman to cube during the nwa concerts.. they showed 5 bars from quiet on tha set and 5 bars from real nikkas and that was only to segway into no vaseline and we all know about that song:mjpls:

if im a 15 year old just learning about NWA from the movie my takeaway is this, Cube wrote everything, Dre produced everything by himself.. Ren spit from time to time but not as much as Cube, Yella was comedic relief

Fact is Ren wrote the vast majority of Eazy's debut album, he appeared on more Straight Outta Compton songs than Cube, and he carried the superior nikkaz4Life album.. got a platinum and gold plaque on his first 2 solo efforts, changed his life and fell the fukk off the face of the Earth.. but as it pertains to his time in NWA, he was arguably the best rapper and obviously the best rapper on their best album so its fukked up how history will look at him as the original Michelle Williams/Tony Yayo

exactly this. I aint expect them to do much but at least show Ren as a factor

Yella got more shine imo.

Yeah Dre, Cube, and Eazy were the stars, but I think Yella stole the show in the first half of the movie. His scenes and lines definitely got the loudest reaction in my theater.

Ren had a smaller part than the other 4, but I definitely don't think he got shafted by his portrayal at all. They even went out of their way to say he was just as good as Cube when it came to writing.

Yeah.

*pulls up a chair*

I also didn't like:

- They show how everybody else in the group got there except him - Easy just brought him with him

- D.O.C. got as much (if not more) screen time than him

- the best acknowledgement of his pen game was when Cube left, Jerry said "We don't need him, Ren is a good writer..."

- they were showing how Cube was eatin', and The Chronic sold 5 mil...but not that Ren was gettin' plaques solo

- No mention of how Ren was "The Villain". Like @SpacelySprockets says here, they play almost all of "No Vaseline"
when Cube says 'who gives a fucc about a punk-ass Villian?' I thought 'these kids in here don't know Ren is The Villain
because they haven't called him that in here'...because there were a lot of people in the theater reacting as if this was
the first time they had ever heard the song (I know, I know...).

- his last line in the movie was "This is bullchit" and then he walked out on Easy.
I feel like they could've done better than that for him.

But ah well.

Back in the days, I always felt like Ren didn't really start standing out until Efil4zaggin.

That's when he kinda took the lead and cats started really noticing how dope he was. When you're in a group with Cube, Dre and Eazy, it's gonna be tough to outshine them. LOL!! Those dudes had a lot of presence.

Youre right, Rens pen game evolved something crazy from the 1st album to the 2nd as did Dre's production.. im not gonna act like I bump Quiet On Tha Set or If It Aint Ruff as much as I do Gangsta Gangsta or Dopeman, but when it comes to nikkaz4life that nikka transformed:wow: I wish he coulda rapped over more Dre production in their primes, Jerry Heller robbed us of something special

Best does not equal, charismatic or most popular. Ice Cube is more captivating and engaging. Ren was the best technically but Cube made better music as a solo artist. Being well rounded is always better than being specialised

Ringo, was the original real star and only real pro in the group, originally.
If I remember right the Beatles hairstyle was his originally, too.

Mc Ren wrote all of eazy duz it, half of the first cd, and almost the whole second CD :shaq:

Technically after the DOC, he was the best lyricist but we all know you need that "it" factor to standout

Actually on hpk, most of the ren songs got more consistent play than the cube based ones when I was a kid.
Ren, was always that nikka.
It was no he is weak till cube left and the pr for why was made public.
That is what made all of nwa get boycotted and cube was given the distinction of cube being cube.
Both were similarly weighted and I can say ren was the more feared emcee on the mic at that exact time.
Cube went to another level technical skill wise on amerikka'a most.
That is why after the split cube was given a higher distinction than ren.
Plus, culturally ren was lumped in the sellout boat with all of nwa.
Yet, he was the only guy who was still credible culturally in the group after cube left.

Ren had an it factor and it translated into him being the only credible nwa member after cube left.

Dre, worked to build his cred up from MTV, and prison industrial Economy complex marketing.
Pr, of wb/interscope and the mass marketing of the chronic smoked out banned van series commercials.
Originally, ren after cube left was the only culturally commendable guy.
Dre did not get back being commendable to the culture till Eminem.
Dre was outta there as far as a culturally commendable guy since nwa.
MTV just dusted him off, but he was outta there culturally along with easy to luke, too.
