Do yall think the "Straight Outta Compton" movie did Ren justice?

Ren got sold very short

There was no one on my block that did not know the words to "if it ain't rough it ain't me"

Don't know about yall block but the person we least talked about while nwa was at its height was Dr Dre :manny:

Facts.

Matter fact - the illest bars Dre said on the whole album was on "Compton's In The House" - with Ren.

Youre right, Rens pen game evolved something crazy from the 1st album to the 2nd as did Dre's production.. im not gonna act like I bump Quiet On Tha Set or If It Aint Ruff as much as I do Gangsta Gangsta or Dopeman, but when it comes to nikkaz4life that nikka transformed:wow: I wish he coulda rapped over more Dre production in their primes, Jerry Heller robbed us of something special

Word.

It feels like all I played that summer, was Efil4zaggin. The beats were crazy!! But that's when I really started to pay attention to Ren.

Like you said, my joints were "Dopeman" and "Gangsta Gangsta". Cube was my dude back then. So whatever he had out, I was focused on that. I think Cube not being around just gave Ren that space to do his thing. He definitely stepped up after he was gone.

Dropping one line about ren being a good writer wasn't enough, we saw cube hand his lyrics over time after time, ren coulda got one of those shots. I don't think dude spoke a full paragraph in any scene, just one line here and there. I understand and expected this, BUT they could've done a bit more to at least educate a new audience on the importance of ren. If I didn't have older brothers, I'd be in the dark on dude, and this movie wouldn't have helped.

Its clear Eazy, Dre, and Cube were always the main guys of NWA and the most notable. But Ren put in that work on the first album too. He seems kind of overlooked as a solid contributor until Ice Cube leaves but even they its played off like "Well, Ice Cube is becoming bigger than us." As far as character goes, hes not given much either outside of being Eazy's homeboy.

What do you guys think?

Ren clearly isn't feeling the movie but he's a team player so he rolled with it. He wrote alot of Eric's and Dre's sh*t when Cube bounced. They could have spent at least 10 minutes focusing on the real tense periods of recording nikkaz4life because Dre said that whole album process was turmoil. Showcasing Ren putting in more work wouldn't hurt sales at all of the movie at all.

Ren didn't get enough shine and the dude playing him had more acting experience and exposure than all the other NWA actors combine, yet the dude from Leverage was barely in the movie.

The movie was dope overall even if many scenes were embellished but Ren should of gotten more shine. Ren should of at least got a concert performance piece like...

"Well for the record it's Ren, and for the street it's villain
And strapped with a gat, it's more like Matt Dillon
On "Gunsmoke", but not a man of the law
I'm just the baddest motherfukka that you ever saw"

Once again I like ren a lot. Lets keep it real though what did he do after the split???????? He had some good albums but he wasn't able to keep himself relevant.

got sold short, but seeing as though dre, cube & tomika were the exec producer's i figured this would be the case.

ren was arguably the best mc in the group, but to keep it real he had the least interesting personality and time has shown that. i just kinda thought it was cold that yella got more shine than him...and where the fuk was the arabian prince?

Pretty much.

Yeah prince was left out and it seems like they really didn't care for the guy.

The 6
Ren was definitely relevant during the timeframe of the movie. They could have had a little of his solo career on ruthless represented but knowing who the producers are he got the treatment than I expected, maybe even a little better.
