I've never seen the first one, friend who did told me it wasn't worth the hype so...
I pity people who didn't experience Avatar in 3D at the theaters. It is the most incredible visual experience I've ever witnessed in film. I think I paid to see it like 4 different times.I've never seen the first one, friend who did told me it wasn't worth the hype so...
Who asked for this? Yeah the first one did well, but that was a novelty due to 3D, but the movie as a whole was culturally irrelevant and quickly forgotten. And also it was a decade ago.
They really waited too long
Movie came out in December and remained number one through winter and into the spring. Maybe it didn't seem huge at the time but people kept going to see it and it had a one of a kind theater experience. There's times I feel like Fox and Cameron did a Def Jam and bought up a grip of tickets to inflate the box office.
The shyt just never made sense to me that it was the highest grossing film ever. It obviously has no culutral cache now but even at the time it didn't feel THAT big. It was a hit but it didn't takeover the entire pop culture narrative in the way other mega hits have.
I dunno...it's just a real weird phenomena to look at now .
It's a shame what Cameron has turned into as a director. He's in that group of directors like Ang Lee and Robert Zemickis who seem more concerned with techology and pushing forward special effects than actually making good films. They got too preoccupied with their toys and forgot everything else.
