Give folks sometime. Ppl love to celebrate the Manning, Brady, Brees, Rivers, Big Ben era but a lot of these cats weren’t the prolific passers they became to be out of the gate. Outside of Peyton they all took time to become great passers and even Peyton took a couple of years.

Brady didn’t spin the ball great til 07, Brees 08ish, Ben late 2000s, Rivers same timeline. They were all winning but they all were in run first schemes primarily to start their careers.

Now saying all of that, these young cats do struggle a bit to pass the ball but they’re mostly in pass first offenses. Some will bust it’s inevitable but I think most will figure it out.

Different game today. Wayy harder to pass back then. Put them into todays game and they are immediately dominating. I can tell youre just looking at raw numbers without era context. Manning and Brady were MVP candidates within there 3rd seasons. Brees was a Pro Bowler in his 3rd season as a starter. Big Ben was a great passer by his 4th year and thats with the setback of his motorcycle accident.

White QBs fizzle at a higher rate because of ratios. And I feel like a lot of teams are flat bigoted when it comes to drafting minority QBs.

Bruce Arians warned everyone about this years ago

Last month, Kurt Warner

And then add that they're getting no help at the pro level, and there's a reason you're seeing bad qb play

That Kurt Warner tweet is why I'm not very enthusiastic about Caleb Williams.

I got a theory.

The generation of late Gen-X and early Millenial QBs came up when the passing game rules weren't as offense-friendly. Defenses could be more aggressive with pass catchers and QBs had to be "sharper" both in college and the NFL.

The rules then changed to favor offense and those guys went from playing the game on "very hard" mode to "easy" relatively speaking. We all saw the explosion of yards/TDs etc.

Now the younger 90s/00s babies grew up with the new rules BUT....so have the younger defensive players and the current crop of coaches.

In the old days, you had QBs running everything from pro-style offense to the wishbone in college. Now they basically all run some version of the spread.....easy reads, lots of spacing...designed to showcase superior athletes but not really helpful for being an elite NFL QB.

NFL QBs need to be able to process quickly, have consistent ball placement and hit short/intermediate throws on time. Good footwork and pocket awareness are always important. NFL looks at your height/weight, 40 time and the rocket arm and thinks "this guy can do it!" A physical freak that's a 3rd round talent gets drafted in the Top 15.

The Bills with Josh Allen shows it’s possible to draft a project and actually develop a QB. He was complete ass for like 3 years but they had a legit plan and it panned out. Most teams just try to draft saviors. Have no real plan on how to develop them. Then bush them in 2 to 3 years. The o coordinators are getting younger and younger. A lot more arrogant. Think it’s about drafting a player who fits what THEY want to do instead of maximizing the skill sets of the players they have/ get. On top of that college is a mess. The developing that was once done at the collegiate level doesn’t exist so it’s a multi tiered problem.
The plan:Diggs
WR1 is the magic eraser

They keep trying to jam a rounded peg in a square hole. All the gurus have just been lucky and had good runs with who they had. The guy can play or he can't. If a coach developed a system around the players strengths, that is coaching and development. Leaking negative information to the press about a players is cowardice and self saving which is what happens more times than not. How many times am i going to have to hear a lie about how the quarterback is terrible when the whole team is terrible, after I watching the GM get rid of the actual good players around the QB trying to tank with not a single sports personality calling it like it is...... these coaches suck and they don't have time to get their shyt together......... but they also suck.

Facts, a lot of coaches failed upwards and stealing $
Jeff Fisher ruined Vince Young

Kurtis Warner seems to be one of those back in my day guys who seems to be forgetting he exists because of sheer luck, and got handed the keys to a high performance sports car

His tweet coincides with a lot of other things I've seen and read about Caleb Williams.
Caleb's college career was almost entirely dominated by throwing screens and other short passes. He's also not been too great at avoiding sacks and has typically had a lot of time to throw.

Caleb may very well be a good pro QB. Having WRs like Keenan Allen and DJ Moore is fantastic for any rookie QB.
My expectations for him are pretty low, however.

He did Not have a lot of time to throw. That’s why he was always throwing off platform. I think he either turns into Aaron Rodgers lite or ends up a Zach Wilson type bust. I think Aaron Rodgers lite is the comp but I wish he could set and learn more about NFL defenses.
