Well, we ARE the top of the food chain. Not saying that all these attributes are equal. What I'm saying is that as human beings, we won the genetic lottery and that just because we were lucky enough to be as intelligent taht we are, doesn't mean that we're not just another mammalian organism.

It's weird to me when some people downplay human intelligence as just some random trait that isn't a significant difference between us an animals.

Animals live and die off basic instinct. We use our instincts, but we also are so aware of our health and immanent death that we try to prevent it and prolong life. The fact that we appreciate the complexities and beauty of the world and continuously explore Earth, as opposed to just existing in it, is a major difference.

Animals can recognize themselves and are aware of their own instinctual needs and existence.. however, we are aware of how we interact with this world, think about our existence, death, and analyze our situation to see how we can change our position in life.

So when our planet dies we'll be JUST as insignificant as animals then?

Different is not better or more important. The universe does not give a fukk between a sloth doing nothing all day and you gazing up at the sky trying to come up with something deep to say because you need to somehow validate our existence.

By that logic any person more creative, destructive or powerful than you as a person automatically makes him or her more important. See how it works? Importance is only relative to our human perceptions. If there's a species out there with a better understanding of the universe and life they won't give a fukk about what we think is more important.

And they, too, will be animals.

Importance is only relative to our human perceptions.

in what why should we measure importance? From our human perceptions and perspective I would assume that if a being from another planet came to Earth, they may select Homo Sapiens as the most important being here from their perceptions.. especially since we would be the only organisms attempting to make contact with or even be aware that they have came from a place other than Earth.
