...because you can't teach them to have a strong moral core without teaching them to be Christians? :aicmon:

I go with what I know. :manny:

We all need to believe in something greater than ourselves.

I mean, is it the dream of Atheists to exist in a world where people have no moral code or higher being that they look up to? Most humans are depraved and wicked naturally I believe
Not particularly because of this. If you ask a religious to imagine a godless world, they'll think of a world where people were rape/murder/theft becomes the only currency of the world. Ask them why they refuse to do wrong, they'll say because God(s) forbids or quote some passage of their spiritual book.

Any other time, this behavior would be considered psychopathic imo. If the only thing stopping you or your peers from going ham is some invisible sky creature or a 2000 year old book, you have problems. When you break it down, we have no real obligation to be cordial to one another without resorting to an in dept philosophical argument. Religion and government to an extent keeps people are on their good behavior. ppl is cray :yeshrug:

I can choose not to wrong someone because I have empathy. The way religious ppl talk, they choose not to do wrong others because the threat of fear hell/karma/spirits/etc. I choose to help others because I have empathy. Religious ppl choose to help others its increases their chances of getting into heaven.

If atheists were leaders theyd have to create a bible for people to abide by because people naturally, want to be lead by the strongest.

That's fine and all, but pushing your children to believe in something that has not been proven to exist seems like a dangerous precedent imo. :yeshrug:

If by bible you mean code of law, I think we already have that.

But yeah, if you ask me why I'm moral, it's because I don't want to live with the stigma of being another black man that went to jail. I don't want to be looked down upon by my family and peers. I want to be successful, and in many ways getting locked up could potentially keep me from attaining my goals.

You don't need a belief in God to do good. There are plenty of REAL, tangible influences in my opinion.

Definitely people wouldn't be warring over who's God is better. I'm sure man would find something else to fight about though.

why does the something greater have to be a responsive entity???

It doesn't have to be responsive...but having faith in something greater is what sustains us and keep us going. Its ultimately about humbling oneself to something greater. I choose to believe in a God and humble myself to that entity.

It doesn't have to be responsive

thank you.

you've just conceded that the belief in God is not necessary

Edit: I'm going to elaborate so you don't think I'm trolling

You said it doesn't have to be responsive....well responsive would mean interactive with this world

I'm assuming that you're a deist and not a christian because you can already see how you're denying your faith

Secondly, you also have not laid proof as to how atheist do not believe in a greater.

We do. Its called life. Life in itself is something greater.

Atheist #1 claim is that religion holds back the capabilities of the HUMAN race. How is that not a belief in something greater???

What do u mean by responsive? That if u worship a lot ur suppose to get something in return?

I do what I do to show appreciation for the wonderment around me, not for a goodie bag from God.

When I see a tree, the ocean, a fine bish walk by...I acknowledge something greater was responsible for this.

When u see all those things...u think of mathematical equations.

I won't knock u....different strokes for different folks. :manny:
