for y'all that remember the off and on flow...there is no better example of it than static on jeru first album (whole album really)...brought a screeching halt to everybody trying to rap like master ace in the early 90's...

I disagree, Jeru was a dope rapper. He wasn't the greatest lyricist but he was still good and dropped quality work after leaving Premier. You acting like he's Group Home. Jeru was nice.

Jeru IMO has two solid classic albums with The Sun Rises In The East and Wrath Of The Math....I'm not even saying that because I'm a fan of his...they just were and still are legitimately dope records.

Of course....lol. I wouldnt speak on him like that unless Ive listened to his work. Again, he was completely carried by Preemo.

I will say this: Jeru's subject matter was above average. He tackled a lot of socio-economic issues, and metaphysical topics. He was fairly thoughtful. But his qualitative skills as an mc like wordplay, cadences and delivery, dexterity and flow....all basic for the most part even at his peak, and he only got worse with age. It it a coincidence that he completely fell off the map, w/o Godly preemo beats arresting everyone's ear?

I will admit, when Jeru fell out with the Gangstarr Foundation and did material without Premier, I lost interest in his work. Like that Heros 4 Hire album with the 99.9% joint? :huhldup:Sh!t was :trash:sounded like a knockoff Wu-syndicate low budget album. And he was definitely throwing shots at Preem and Gangstarr all over that. But you right, his first two albums were fire not just because of Preem but because his styles and flows accented his production to a tee.

Lyrically, I consider him the best out of the Gangstarr foundation (Big Shug, Lil Dap, Melachi The Nutcracker, Guru, Premier)

reading back i just grasped what you said about bigs voice being wrong...which is type true. i couldn't stand his voice for a long time before i heard RTD.
His voice was wrong? What does that mean? Big always sounded great to me, although his style/delivery did change over time.

i get it...big's voice was grating for sure. i hate that super cat joint because of that screaming shyt he and puff were doing. the feature with heavy d, party n bullshyt. it took me a long time to like big because of his voice...
Bigs voice was grating? I loved the super cat joint! "I love it when you call me Big Poppa, the show stoppa the rhyme droppa". He sounded amazing on that. And I prefer Puff on that record to his normal awkward sound.
I can't think of any emcee I've disliked because of his voice...

Wu syndicate actually had great production. Very underrated and overlooked album.
