To keep it 100, there was a time when Jeru and Buckshot were the hottest rappers getting bumped in the streets. Tell me if I'm lying
:ld: Enta Da Stage & Sun Rises in the East are pretty sick. I can believe that

I thought Black Moon was overshadowed by Wu though by the end of 93. I mean shyt, they even titled the album "Enter The Wu-Tang" :birdman:

Jeru was an average lyricist at best...he was completely carried to stardom by Preemo's beats. Without preemo, Jeru wouldnt have sold five records.
jeru's style was blunted as fukk. he and buckshot brought that blunted cipher style to the forefront back then but jeru was hands down the best at that...far from average

he lost that on his second album, maybe he switched strains or something

Lets try an experiment...Hypothetically, what if Jeru were a member of the WU? Where would you rank him? Ahead of Meth? Rae? Ghost? Gza? Fukk no...he would settle right in the middle. The average.

More to that point, who was Jeru fukkin with during that era. The mid to late 90s was flooded with skilled MC's, so in that era he was right around average. Forget the cream of the crop --- was Jeru better than cats like Keith Murray, Redman, Lauryn, De la, AZ.....I could go on and on...Perhaps if he debuted now it would be a different story.

You can make the argument that I might be underrating him to a degree, but he was certainly closer to average than great --- and thats just ranking him strictly by his peak, and not by the totality of his career. He regressed as an MC pretty quickly, and didnt improve.

The cat that for all intents and purposes replaced him in the Ganstarr Foundation, Afu Ra, to me was superior. I dont remember Jeru having a lyrical display like this:

LMAO WTF kinda argument is this? You'd have a point if Meth, Rae, Ghost, GZA were slightly above average rappers but they're all incredibly rappers. Ranking Jeru lower than them isn't at all an insult in talent.

WTF kinda hypothetical is that? Yes, let's list 4 of the best MCs arguably of their time who happen to be in the same group....Settling right in the middle of the Wu is still a dope MC.

And I can take that hypothetical and go the other way with it....Jeru being part of the Wu may have brought the best out of him and made him step his game up, his lyrics, etc since they were crazy competitive with each other back then when making records together.

All I know is, Jeru was NEVER considered average back when his first two albums popped off or after - this is revisionist shyt in this thread

Who said anything about insult? What about perspective? Once you start auditing the talent around at the time, I have a hard time figuring out how Jeru ranked where calling him average among his peers is some sort of a grave insult.

You compared him to elite rappers.

To me Jeru is about Guru level as far as rapping. He is well above average. He's a very good rapper, just below elite.

We all know Biggie is significantly better than Jeru that doesn't mean Jeru wasn't nice as fukk tho

jeru was already actualized in his skillset.
so, I can't say an offkey emcee with no grasp of vocal tonality.
plus, no other discernible cultural knowledge was better.

whereas big, we got to see ramp up.
so, I can't actually say big was better.

big was based on the cultural sellout Harrell alternative to defjam model.
jeru, was a culturally based artist like black uhuru.

so, I really can't say big was better.
big had more resources and still did not make a better cultural submission than jeru.
jeru debuted with a perfect classic solo album.
big just had a highly rated album.
their second album are both highly rated, and big's is overprocessed as a rating based on emotional loss.

not to mention,..jeru's first two album content is significantly higher than big's.
from an actual level of taking something away to help you later.

can't stop the profit
bytches
me or the paper
not your average nikka
jungle music

I don't have any big records I cite as being content that is still an actual aid.
not to mention,...
I never spin no big shyt, in my personal listening.
I spin the first two jeru records, mindlessly.
then, still take away content that is an aid.
with big....I don't and never got any of that.
