Blasphemy
To keep it 100, there was a time when Jeru and Buckshot were the hottest rappers getting bumped in the streets. Tell me if I'm lying
Who do you consider a "good" lyricist?
I'll say this, not everyone is an elite lyricist, but what a lot of MC's have in order to mask their limitations is charisma. Thats how they maintain relevance and interest. They can will their lyrics to sound good. Jeru is about as uncharismatic as it gets, which makes the rest of his lack of skill set all the more glaring. Any decent MC could sound good on 'Come Clean', 'D'original', 'Mind Sprays', etc...Jeru was exposed quickly w/o elite preemo production backing him.

I kinda hear what you saying, his flow wasn't relentless ridiculousness that just immediately smacks you in the head an made your jaw drop, like Nas or G Rap, he was a little more relaxed, unorthodox, sneak up on you, cut your throat and be around the corner before you even realize your neck is hurting type flow. Still ill as shyt to me. And def charasmatic to, his voice is commanding. shyt demands attention.Of course....lol. I wouldnt speak on him like that unless Ive listened to his work. Again, he was completely carried by Preemo.
I will say this: Jeru's subject matter was above average. He tackled a lot of socio-economic issues, and metaphysical topics. He was fairly thoughtful. But his qualitative skills as an mc like wordplay, cadences and delivery, dexterity and flow....all basic for the most part even at his peak, and he only got worse with age. It it a coincidence that he completely fell off the map, w/o Godly preemo beats arresting everyone's ear?
Winter late 93 going into Summer 94, it was all about Buckshot, Jeru, and Nas. And this wasn't just a mere underground thing. This what n1ggas in the streets were bumpin out of every whip or stereoPeople told me I was crazy when I said this in another thread
