To keep it 100, there was a time when Jeru and Buckshot were the hottest rappers getting bumped in the streets. Tell me if I'm lying

The sun rises in the East :wow: is a dope album. I like Jeru over Big a bit.

Who do you consider a "good" lyricist?

I'll say this, not everyone is an elite lyricist, but what a lot of MC's have in order to mask their limitations is charisma. Thats how they maintain relevance and interest. They can will their lyrics to sound good. Jeru is about as uncharismatic as it gets, which makes the rest of his lack of skill set all the more glaring. Any decent MC could sound good on 'Come Clean', 'D'original', 'Mind Sprays', etc...Jeru was exposed quickly w/o elite preemo production backing him.

Jeru is crazy underrated that 'Heroz4Hire' album he did with Miz Marvel is a personal classic of mine...as good sun rises was its far from his best work...premo is illl and all but people dikkride him too much...I remember some idiots saying Guru was wack without premo beats which makes no sense since G had mad classics without premo same with Jeru

Jeru was dope but Premo did enhance his catalog greatly. The Biggie Beef with other New Yorkers IMO dealt with jealously cause he was on Top at the time. Some try to say it was Big going commercial but he had the streets and mainstream, it was about Balance. Here's a rare photo of Big and Jeru:

i refuse to conform
You wanna front, what? Jump up and get bucked
If you're feeling lucky duck, then press your luck
I snatch fake gangsta MC's and make em fakkit flambe
Your nine spray, my mind spray
Malignant mist steadily pumps the funk
The results your remains stuffed in a car trunk
You couldn't come to the jungles of the East poppin that game
You won't survive, get live, catchin wreck is our thing
I don't gang bang or shoot out bang bang
The relentless lyrics the only dope I slang
I'm a true master you can check my credentials
'Cause I choose to use my infinite potentials
Got a freaky, freaky, freaky-freaky flow
Control the mic like Fidel Castro
Locked cuba So deep that you can scuba
Dive/my jive origin is unknown like the Jubas
I've accumulated honies all across the map
'Cause I'd rather bust a nut then bust a cap
In Ya back in fact my rap snaps ya sacroilliac
I'm the mack so i don't need to tote a Mac
My attack is purely mental and its nature's not hate
It's meant to wake ya up out of ya brainwashed state
Stagnate nonsense but if you persist
You'll get ya snotbox bust you press up on this
I flip hoes dip none of the real nikkas slip
You don't know enough math to count the mics that I ripped
Keep the Dirty Rotten Scoundrel as his verbal weapons spit

jeru the damaja had a ill vocab and dope rhyme schemes and as far as his writing ability was concerned.

Of course....lol. I wouldnt speak on him like that unless Ive listened to his work. Again, he was completely carried by Preemo.

I will say this: Jeru's subject matter was above average. He tackled a lot of socio-economic issues, and metaphysical topics. He was fairly thoughtful. But his qualitative skills as an mc like wordplay, cadences and delivery, dexterity and flow....all basic for the most part even at his peak, and he only got worse with age. It it a coincidence that he completely fell off the map, w/o Godly preemo beats arresting everyone's ear?
I kinda hear what you saying, his flow wasn't relentless ridiculousness that just immediately smacks you in the head an made your jaw drop, like Nas or G Rap, he was a little more relaxed, unorthodox, sneak up on you, cut your throat and be around the corner before you even realize your neck is hurting type flow. Still ill as shyt to me. And def charasmatic to, his voice is commanding. shyt demands attention.

So Preemo says he stopped the tape when Big got to "that line"

But really, what line exactly? How did Preemo know exactly at that moment that Big was

1) dissin Jeru
2) referencing Preem running with them

Unless Jeru really do got cum in him :lolbron:
