Winter late 93 going into Summer 94, it was all about Buckshot, Jeru, and Nas. And this wasn't just a mere underground thing. This what n1ggas in the streets were bumpin out of every whip or stereo

I can cosign this. They (plus Wu) were the biggest thing in NY at that time.

I put Jeru in the same class as someone like Q Tip. Not super lyrical like Nas but simple and effective. He killed Come Clean.

Leave your 9's at home and bring your skills to the Battle :wow:

Nothing amazing by itself but he sounded cold delivering those bars:wow:

I seriously don't believe a person that calls Jeru "average" and basically tries to relegate him as some d-list rapper carried by beats, has heard a lot of his work in the 90's. With and without Preem. Very capable and commanding MC. His style could be slightly obtuse but he was vicious.

Exactly. He was good with or without Premo

I'll say this, not everyone is an elite lyricist, but what a lot of MC's have in order to mask their limitations is charisma. Thats how they maintain relevance and interest. They can will their lyrics to sound good. Jeru is about as uncharismatic as it gets, which makes the rest of his lack of skill set all the more glaring. Any decent MC could sound good on 'Come Clean', 'D'original', 'Mind Sprays', etc...Jeru was exposed quickly w/o elite preemo production backing him.

real talk,...
nobody ever spit over those and eclipsed what jeru was doing.
I seen all types of classes of spitters never master those beats or what jeru was doing, on them.

you still to this day would not find anyone who could kill those beats like jeru did.
also,....those records you quoted were part of probably the second longest record delay in history after big l.
so, I really cram to understand if you know the sonic gen, those records dropped in.
plus, the actual history behind that jeru record.

Blasphemy

also,....jeru's classic was light years better than rtd.
on top, of the fact...
it was mired by delays.

also,...you could never have bought any wax back then, either.
as you really have no frame of reference how hard it was to get a jeru twelve.
as opposed to a twelve from big.

I remember where I was when I got every jeru twelve, on the first two joints.
getting biggie material was just whatever.

nikkaz overrate big because of nostalgia.
yet, rtd was nowhere near jeru's record.

big was not seeing jeru till he ramped up, and even then...
it was only one remix...against, argueably one of the best twelve inches [come clean ] and perfect classic lp's of all time, in rap history.
big does not have a perfect classic,........
he has a nostalgia overranked because of emotion classic.

were you cognitive during this shyt,....?

biggie did not have a record that could fukk with anything on jeru's first record.
nor, did any of big's singles during that time, before one more chance rock as long as jeru's.
one more chance came out in the spring of 95.
way after jeru dominated with come clean and srite.

biggie need to revamp and relaunch his whole style and a passing the torch vid with heavy as the first image.
plus, the entire mca and extended family featured in the vid and hook to get the same response as jeru's come clean.

plus, real talk,...
I would never rate one more chance over come clean, either.
also,...when one more chance dropped.
it still was not dominating come clean or the pete rock can't stop the profit remix, either.
come clean rocked way harder on real shyt than any big single.
you had to be in the jiggy club, for a big single to get the response come clean got.
which happened years after the fact, in 1996.

jeru owned everything with come clean from late 92 - 95.
it was the top instrumental and knocked off redman's tonite's the nite as the go to instrumental.

no other instrumental or rap record was fukk'n with come clean, breh.

Jeru wasn't better than BIG but he defintely wasn't average.

when come clean rocked, and ruled.
big was still yelling like he was on dolly me, baby.....
he was not ruling shyt like jeru's come clean.
nor did he have a record before retooling that could fukk with jeru.

the mca model and clive cosign is what made big more accessible via pr, and perception to the masses.
yet, before big retooled...
he was not in jeru's distinction at all.

y'all trying to revise history.
that you definitely were not there for.
