RJ and Mitch are taking leaps in their fifth and sixth years right now. Development takes longer than people have patience for, and it's non-linear. I'd like to see Grimes get extra time on the court with Hart and Donte, just to get into the flow of what they do in terms of off-ball movement. He'll figure some stuff out, especially if he gets another taste of the playoffs.

That said, we do need another wing defender. But I want that piece paired with Grimes, so he doesn't have to ALWAYS guard the best player. I think Grimes' best value is at the POA.

The team needs another upgrade to hit the next level or someone to take a leap. Wait for a real star to be available; then ALL these cats are tradeable. IQ, RJ, Grimes...but it's gotta be a star. None of these cats are just throw-ins anymore.

People have a issue with da way grimes plays, but its partly because of da way he is used.

Almost every time Grimes get da ball he seems slightly surprised and rushes to shoot, or does that pump fake and drives some what recklessly.

I think people are realizing that will always be his role, because thibs isnt gonna run plays for him and none of da other starters look for him.

If that's da case, and we signed Donte to further take away minutes from him, it makes sense to consider trading him. This team isn't there yet and Grimes is still considered a high value young player.

It looks like he has a ceiling with us, as long as thibs is here Atleast. Donte already looks more comfortable than him after 10 games and he's the only new player on da team lol. We need to make a move, our core as is aint cuttin it.
Look man I’ve been the first to say Grimes should be more aggressive his lack of aggression is actually surprising because last year he was pretty trigger happy off the catch and his decisiveness is always what popped out to me especially the first step and interior passing ability.

At this point in time Donte is the better player. It’s not a knock on Grimes, Donte is just a legitimate solid player in this league and a veteran.

I’m only willing to make a big trade for the right player. The right player isn’t available so we’ll continue fielding a competitive team.

The fans need to get off his dikk you need a low usage player with our starting 5. Grimes is statistically our best guard defender and was 40% from 3 coming into the last game. Our starting 5 has been a huge plus (+11.6 points per 100 possessions) this year with Grimes in there.

Grimes playing like Keith Bogans he isn’t exactly hurting us on the floor his usage rate is low, he functions off the ball as a respectable spacer, he defends, doesn’t turn it over, I’ve seen god awful detrimental play from Ntilikina and Barrett and I never saw a legion of Knicks fans calling for them to be benched they were always fan favorites.

Let’s not forget it’s a lot of talent there that hasn’t been unleashed…

I think your memory fading a little bit king. RJ very much was destroyed last year and was in at least 100 plus trade ideas and scenarios from this board alone last year. Fans wanted more than just RJ being benched they wanted him out of here.

I think it’s the opposite. It’s like a portion of the fanbase HAS to turn its negative attention towards someone, whether it was Mitch a few years ago, Julius, RJ etc. Most of us in here have been guilty of it. It’s just Grimes turn to prove us wrong like the rest of those guys did. Best believe had RJ started slow he’d be getting crucified. But he’s been good. Brunson’s been good. Julius has even been good. Mitch has been amazing. IQ has been good. Donte has shown flashes and the Hart foundation are who they are. Grimes has been the obvious “weak link” in our rotation. Our expectations for him were for him to step up the 3 in his 3 and D prototype and he hasn’t yet. So he’s getting picked on. :manny:
He would have been the one leading the charge. Dude is sensitive asf.

It was like 3 nikkas in here holding out hope for RJ last season. Y’all was so fervent that Iso assumed it was a lot of y’all :russ:
I was another one. I thought Cam could be that piece we needed as a bigger wing, but now I know he is not.

Nothing against Grimes but I agree here. RJ should go back to his natural position as a two guard. I was hoping Paul George would have been that target to be that Big wing but the Clippers are turning it around

There are a few guys but none of them are great and I got to repeat that the Knicks don’t want to fukk up and lose IQ by adding a guy who takes their money. Off the top of my head I have said Jerami Grant a few times before, but the money is rough, and while they might go over the cap the more I think about it the more I think that it’s not a good fit based on money or what his role would be.

So there are some reclamation projects out there the Knicks could maybe add to try and fix the issue De’andre Hunter or Siddiq Bey. Of the two I think Hunter might hit the market. They should want to keep Siddiq, Bogdan can play SF, Jalen Johnson can play PF, and they still have AJ Griffin they just drafted. Flipside Bey might be available if the Hawks don’t want to pay him, but they should which is why I think Hunter hits the market. Hawks have him as a starter and I think he’s a bench piece. Money works perfectly with Fournier too. Knicks just need a guy who can come in and make guys like Tatum, Luka, and Antman work to score, while not being somebody the opposing team can then ignore on defense.

Another guy to consider is Patrick Williams but that injury he had a few seasons ago stalled his development to the point I think he is a complete reclamation project and not someone Thibs would deal with.

I was just looking at the bottom teams in the league and Patrick Williams stood out. He didn't look like a lost cause last season, but I haven't watched the Bulls much this season to know what's going on with him. On the serious bargain bin side of things, we could chase a specialist for the end of the bench...Thybulle for defense or McDermott for another spacer.

Grimes is way better then frank ever was.
RJ, for as wild as he can be, hasn't really regressed and he has a role on this team like it or not. We've seen how we've played in da games without him this year, we are a better team when he"s on da court.

I dont think anyone hates grimes lol you got it twisted. The fact remains da starters do not pass to him, and he can't create his own opportunies. Lettin him play with quick and josh hart could change that.

im not sayin i want him gone, but you dont want an Obi situation to develop where his game never progressses and we lose him for nothing.

KNICKS NEVER TRADE PLAYERS WHEN THEY HAVE HIGH VALUE. THAT IS PART OF DA REASON DA TEAM NEVER IMPROVES SIGNIFICANTLY.

Tampering and signing best friends can only last so long. At some point a player we all like has gotta go

He’s definitely someone on the list. They really just need a bigger wing who can focus on defense 20 minutes a game, hit the open three, and if the opponents give them an open lane, drive to the basket.
