Of course there are all types of immigrants. The majority come here for a better chance. Just like there are all types of African Americans, and trust me my hat goes off to the ones makin it. Those the ones I associate with cause they on the same wavelength. Good Family values, and workin hard to get yours.
That doesn't mean you should turn your nose up at those that aren't. You don't come from where they come from, you don't have the same challenges they have. Being an immigrant you don't understand these people struggles, just like they can't understand yours, so it's very arrogant to try and say what these people should be doing or how they should be acting. That's just like me saying since you and your family were able to make it out of Haiti, the rest of the Haitians are just lazy and unmotivated. The opportunity is there for them to leave, but they haven't so they must be lesser people than those that did leave.

My story about my family, is just showing you that not all families come here set up...like we coming here on cruise ships, and slidin right into a Bimmer, and right to our suburbian homes. People really do kill themselves tryin to get here, just for that chance...so it sucks to see people who are born here squander their chances.
I never said all families come here set up. I said the experiences and challenges are different, therefore the comparisons are misleading

People of all races and walks of life squander or don't take their opportunities seriously. The difference is poor blacks have so many things stacked against them that even if they don't squander their opportunities there is no gaurantee that they will make it.

Who said I was running around following the white man? I never said anything about the white man. I'm talking about earning, and keeping yours. Working hard for what you get....If you associate that with the white man, that's where you are wrong. That's being the right man. Doing the right things to get ahead...sacrificing not having now, to have and build later.
Let that self shame go man... I'm not trying to be white...I'm living how I wanna live, and not being ashamed about it. Self empowerment is a muhfukka...
You don't think you are, but that's exactly what you've been bred to do.

Your parents didn't move here to be like black folks
Your parents didn't move here to take advantage of opportunities that black folks provided.

Your entire post read like a white conservatives analysis of black America. You've adopted the same negative attitude torwards blacks as white folks. You subscribe to the same incorrect stereotypes about black folks. And you try your damnedest to distance yourself from black folks. And you justify that by sayin "I have a lot of black friends"

If you didn't tell me you were from Haiti I would of thought you were a white man.

Trust me every poor able bodied Haitian wants to get off that Island. If they can they can... They think everyone is rich over here. I'm not demeaning the ones that can't.

Let's be honest, and reality here....I think the biggest challenges facing blacks are bad decision making.

But since African Americans don't have any "leaders" to show them the way it's ok to pass the buck onto the man.

The man didn't tell you compromise your freedom by doin dirt.

The man aint tell you to be happy accepting low life as s spouses to have kids with.

So this poor family structure that doesn't emphasize education to get ahead is all results of what? A continuous cycle of bad decision making.

The struggles that you talk about AA face, are the same ones immigrants face. Cause we go to the same schools when we first come here.

Stop acting like this whole country is some backwoods ass barefoot struggle town, where the black kids are not allowed to go to school. These kids don't value education due to the weak family structure. They don't bring books to school, God forbid they bring a book bag...don't wanna look too white now. Of course there are low lifin immigrants, also I'm not blind to this.

I'm pointing out that it's a shame that people who come from other countries are outpacing some African Americans who have been here for hundreds of years.

You call my post arrogant. I call it pride. That's what we all need as Blacks as a whole. I never said my best friends are black lol. I said I associate with Blacks that are bout that. My dawg that I went to school with....You wanna talk about me lookin down on ignorance... My man grew up in Newark...2 parent household, educated parents. He hate that ignorant bullish too...we don't like ignorance in what ever color it is cause it aint no need for it. Like Chris Rock said ...There is a difference between Good Black Folk, and Nig gas.

I think the biggest issue is the lack of low income blacks access to social capital. Social capital is a hierarchical relationship.

If you have a black middle and upper class that's done the right thing yet unable or are unwilling to bring others up along with them, then those people beneath will stay there.

Bringing a comedian into a discussion around the movement of a people? Chris Rock is not a social scientist. Bringing up some cutisie remark by him brings NOTHING to this discussion.

It's not about what they think. It's about what they do. They will pass you up on a job just like they will pass me up. The ideas that you use to try to distance yourself from nikkas come directly from them, just like the idea of them thinking you are a nikka.

You think you are being "better" than nikkas, cause they told you that you would be if you don't do what "nikkas" do. But what is it that "nikkas" do. All those stereotypes you attributed to them only reside in a small fraction of the black community. But you have no problem bringing them up to try to prove your superiority. You are no different than any other black person in America and if you think some black folks are nikkas, then that makes you one to, you just don't know it yet, but believe me one of these days one of these cacs will remind you exactly who you are.

So your solution is lets create our own country, and move all blacks out of America? Because they just think of us as Nigg ers anyway. Ok so back to reality, of course there is fukkin racism in this country...Of course we face challenges...so does that mean give up hope, and still accept Black people that don't value themselves? All those marches in the 50, and 60's was for equality. Now just throw it in their faces, by dropping the ball. Just cause we are black does not mean we should just accept being second class, doesn't mean we have to continue cycles of bad behavior, it doesn't mean we can't strive for better. This oh well they think of us as nigg ers, so it don't matter aint what's up bruh bruh.

I never said any of that. Again that is the rush Limbaugh within you speaking out.

I never said they think of us as nikkas so it don't matter. I said they think of YOU as a nikka no matter what therefore you turning your nose up and trying to distance yourself from those you deem as "nikkas" just reinforces their narrative.

We are all playing their game. They created the idea of "nikka" or "not nikka" so if you walk around poking your chest out talmbout "I'm not a nikka" you are letting them define you just as much as those "nikkas" you're trying to diss.

I think we are looking at things differently due to the fact you are African American, and I'm not. We share the same skin color, but it's a totaly different point of view. I guess it's like when a Dominican says he's not black he's Dominican, but they be as black as :shaq:.

co-sign, ice water went off the rails when he tried to use a comparison to insult people

and its disgusting the way immigrants of all races look down at the same people who gave them the opportunities in the first place

but i think a comparison is valid just to learn new ideas, imo black people are comparable to every group that has existed in the entire history of mankind, its anti intelectual to suggest otherwise and leads to stagnation

one thing ive learned from world history is that all great societies and all great nations got there by stealing and borrowing ideas from other people, so if black people want to be great we will have to get ideas from other people

good point. Also the "entrepreneurial" mindset of an immigrant, the ability to break free from ties and cultural traditions enough to explore integrating into a new culture, is different from one who is part of a culture that has been systemically socialized into a dependent "slave-minded" thinking for many generations

It's amazing though. The same thing takes place in those same immigrants home countries. The middle or upper income person from their home country rarely interact with those of a lower social class...so that lower social class of people remain in poverty.

But here we have people who come here with a larger social capital and compare them to those here that are without it.

It's incredible....and arrogant as fukk.

I'm sorry but you gotta be kiddin me bro. Immigrants coming to this country are not set up like that, if they are balling like that in their country why come here? Immigrants come here to take advantage of education, and a strong economy, and opportunity.

Indians come here and shack up 2, 3 families in a house, wearing ragged clothes, but they got a goal in mind. They know in India, it's far worse...they bussin they arse puttin they kids through school.

My family came here from Haiti, bruh...the bottom of the bottom... We lived side by side with Blacks in the hood, but we knew the hood aint where we wanted to remain... While we was gettin called HBO for Haitian Body odor, by the blacks in the hood, we moved out the projects eventually, Pops went to College, Moms went to college, My sis, and I went to College. We came from nothin and took advantage. So it's hard for people from other countries to see African Americans wallow in a country that affords them such opportunities. Gotta change your mindset. Gotta move foward and let the past be the past.

PLease don't get offended but there is seperation amongs blacks from other countries, and African Americans. I know Haitians, and Africans..call Black Americans. "Bums"....Don't be like those Bum Americans, don't wear your clothes like them, Pops wouldn't even let me get High top Fades back in the day, because I would look too much like a "Bum"... Black Flight is real.

African Americans community is always looking for Leaders...where are our leaders? Lead yourself...

This is what puts both groups off from each other and I think it has a lot to do with the ideas created by the media towards both groups.

The media says black americans are lazy and it also says foreigners live in shacks. This is why, no matter where you come from, black americans always think you are from Africa.

Foreigners come to America expecting certain things from Black Americans and Black Americans look down on foreigners.

It is a vicious cycle. I do think that the way foreigners and immigrants look at black americans is unfair. A lot has taken place before black immigrants came here.

Most immigrants come from countries that they cannot get together and they somehow believe that black people can survive in a country that isn't even their own.

We are guests in this country. Despite the black president, we don't own anything here, we didn't conquer this land, and a few choice laws can leave us on the outside.

Before black foreigners were allowed in this country there was a struggle for the blacks already here. Black immigrants didn't do that or struggle for it.

Immigrants didn't have to deal with the aftermath of drugs being introduced into cities. Immigrants didn't have to deal with CointelPro and other programs aimed at discrediting and disrupting the black community by our own government.

This is not to be taken lightly, because these Assassinations and other efforts had far reaching consequences that immigrants coming here will never understand.

Immigrants come here having that hustle hard mentality, but when the drive and fight has been beaten out of you, you cannot blame black people for their conditions when no other group in this country has been so sabatoged by their own government (maybe the Native Americans have a case).

Btw my parents are immigrants. I have heard many of the things you speak of and I also hate the ghetto behavior I see on a daily basis. However, I see beyond the result to how it happened.

Props I honestly never looked at it from that point of view. The cards have been stacked against you. It is true you do come to this country with that hustle hard mentality. Even if Haiti ain't much but it is our country, and we are a free people. AA can't experience that unfortunately. Y'all in the land of opportunity, but it's heavily rigged, and traps abound.

I was lookin at it as poor is poor so why y'all not coming up too? But y'all history and lineage is far different from ours. Our ways of seeing the world couldn't be more diff. Props on the insight!
