Why do people act like Draymond wasn't a great player at Michigan St. aswell though?

I've brought this up multiple times. Big 10 Player of the Year, consensus All-American, coaches loved him. He was already known as a great passer, great rebounder, range to 3pt, fantastic bball IQ. Teams actually projected him as a good offensive player but were worried about his defense because even though he was an elite college defender, they thought in the NBA he'd be too slow to guard SF and too short to guard PF/center. Turned out he was actually among the best at both because his bball IQ more than makes up for his lack of athleticism and size.

Here are some draft quotes:

"I'm not sure what position he'll guard in the pros. What he does have is basketball IQ and the skills to make it lethal against his opponents. He can shoot, handle the ball, pass like a guard and isn't afraid to bang in the paint." - Chad Ford

"Senior forward Draymond Green is playing a heavy role in that. There is not a more skilled and versatile power forward in the country, as Green can score, rebound, and pass the ball at an elite level on any given night. While Green is clearly very productive at the NCAA level, projecting him in the NBA isn't a seamless endeavor, primarily due to his average physical tools and tweener status." - Jonathan Givony

"Green has a lot to work on coming into the NBA, but he also has a lot to offer. Not only does he have an impressively high basketball I.Q., Green is also one of the most complete "big men" in the draft. Green will bring immediate production to the court on the glass, and he'll also be able to bring some scoring off the bench with his deep range and smooth stroke.

On the defensive side of the ball though, Green will be somewhat of a liability, especially at the small forward position. Green lacks the athleticism and lateral agility it takes to defend NBA talent on the perimeter, and that will keep him from being as productive as he possibly could during his rookie year.

With that being said, the one thing that Green will undoubtedly do during his rookie year is make those around him better players. That's the kind of player he was at Michigan State, and that will certainly translate into the NBA." - Peter Emrick

Strengths:
  • Physicality
  • Strength
  • Strong rebounder
  • Passing ability
  • Mid-range game
  • Three-point range
  • Inside/outside game
  • Footwork in the post
  • Can back down defenders

  • Doesn't need to score to impact game
  • Plays extremely hard
  • Basketball IQ
  • Terrific teammate/leader

    Weaknesses:
  • Undersized to guard an NBA power forward but not quick enough to cover a small forward
  • Defending on the perimeter

Playing on the Warriors didn't "make" Draymond a great passer, scoring threat, or the kind of player who makes his teammates better. All of that was already there and everyone knew it. The one question mark was his defensive versatility and that turned out to be his greatest strength. If teams had known that his elite college defense was going to carry over to the pros he would have been a top-8 pick.

He is still a nobody

Defensive Player of the Year, 4x All Star, 2x All-NBA, 7x All-Defensive Team, starter on 4 championship squads.

Basketball Reference has him as a 77% chance to make the Hall of Fame based on stats and accolades alone. That's better odds than Jimmy Butler, Kevin Love, or Klay Thompson.

Right message?

Draymond is a HOFer, 4x champion, 2x Olympic Gold medalist, DPOY, has multiple All-Star selections, has multiple All-NBA selections, has multiple All-Defensive selections, NABC National Player of the Year and been an integral part of one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history.

Why disrespect someone who's had a career like that?

If this man came up in the 80s and had this career, what would you be saying if anyone started hating on him?

Warriors don't have a dynasty without Dray.

Why even put a qualifier of Draymond wouldn't be anything on another team like that? He's proven himself. He's had success. He's proven y'all wrong every single step of the way. He made the most out of his situation. Shouldn't he be celebrated and respected rather than hated? What if we went through and dissected every NBA great's career and said they wouldn't be the same player if they didn't get drafted to a certain team and didn't play alongside great players? Would that be hating or just "speaking facts"?

It's funny how y'all like to pick and choose when to be outraged. Let someone disrespect a player from the past and y'all are quick to get y'all heads hot.
