Palpatine never got a back story. And if you mention one damn book.
That was fine for the first set of movies. Everything was new, nobody really had a heavy backstory
But now we have six movies where a whole saga was set up, and the heroes overcame great powerful enemies to save the whole galaxy. And now you have this new dude that was able to just negate all of that, with no explanation of how or where he even came from before you killed him?? :mindblown:

Bro, who cares about Palpatine. Lucas probably didnt even have a backstory written when ESB came out. Snoke was introduced as the new big dark side user after every dark side user(that we knew of) had been wiped out. Also the way Leia mentioned him was as if she was very familiar with him . He didn't come out of nowhere . A backstory is required.

Because as any good story teller knows the less you give the better. It worked for Palpatine even though the prequels could of explored his back story they didn't. With snoke if they gave him a back story people would complain about it.

Cool. So you disagree with all of the people saying they don't see where this story goes after this movie, right? Since the movie is just another rehash, the future of the series is obvious to you, correct? How does killing off the main character of the series not qualify as meaningful? Ren is beyond his Vader fixation. Leia is dead in real life and most likely will be written out in the next movie. Tell me, what is left of the original trilogy? The Skywalker saga has effectively ended.

luke is not dead, he is coming back in ghost form.

thematically and plot-wise there is no indication that the franchise is heading in a new direction. it's still big bad empire vs small band of rebels... still dark jedi on the hunt for good jedi who also happens to be special and flies around in the falcon with chewbacca.

he didn't need a 'backstory', his role in the story was implied. he was the leader of the empire. they explained how the empire came to be in the first movie. you just have to assume he's the one behind it all... not a stretch.

Why is a backstory required? Because you wanted one? How would his back story advanced the plot?

The fact that all the main characters got an upgrade except for Finn is disgusting.

Rey- About to be the New Jedi Grandmaster. Will learn from the old Jedi Text
Poe- About to be the new leader of the Resistance
Kylo Ren- Currently The Supreme Leader of the First Order

Finn- Still running around screaming REYYYY!!!!!

This nikka really just said a character isn't dead, but will somehow come back as a ghost. What's the qualification for being a ghost, breh? What's the one thing you need on your resume to get hired for that gig? Props on trolling the hell out of me for a few posts, fam:francis:

The other weird thing to me is how people are mad at Rey for becoming a Jedi Master even tho Luke became a Jedi Master by doing handstands. :dahell:

I’m glad they pointed out the flaws of that teaching in Last Jedi.

luke will probably be filling the same exact role in the next movie as he did in this one, minus the physical fight at the end (which wasn't even really a physical fight technically)

he will be there to give rey advice... and he will probably be all over the marketing. so its hard to say they're going to move past luke.

That's the problem......the plot is hollow as fukk with no substance. Instead of advancing the plot they should have fleshed it out a little more. 2 movies in and you still don't know truly what the fukk is going on and how this came to be. What is Snoke trying to achieve? What is Kylo trying to achieve?? What did Vader start that he needs to finish ?? It's starting to just look like a money grab an excuse to milk this shyt out and sell more books, comics, video games etc...

I can't believe i miss politics in Star Wars...

I highly doubt anybody would be complaining if they explained where this nikka came from and how he got power that seems to be on par with the greatest Sith ever known

Heroes defeat great villains and save the universe...then you turn the page and they are running and hiding from completely different villains that have taken over the universe they saved, and we aren't privy to an explanation as to how this happened? :heh:
Or why in a universe where it's been established that even naturally powerful in the force people need training to use the force and a lightsaber you have a girl that has these skills out the blue? But at least Rey hasn't been killed, so there is still time to explain why she is god tier I guess

A huge part of the backlash against this movie has been about how far its deviated from not only the lore of Star Wars, but also tropes the fandom have gotten used to from this series. So you're right, big bad empire vs small group of rebels will most likely be the crux of the next movie, but TLJ changed a lot of things for this series going forward.

The movie never explained why Poe...one of Leia’s most loyal/trusted officers..... was kept in the dark for any plans after Holden took over. The dude flat out committed a mutiny because the movie agenda was set to emasculate his character and not be told a damn thing by Holden. :hhh:

That's legit the only reason Poe exists in the movie. I heard that originally Poe was supposed to die in TFA and Finn was supposed to basically take over Poe's role and it made sense after seeing TLJ. Now both characters are basically worthless to the story. Plus since Leia is still alive they probably won't be worth anything to 9 either. It's like all male characters in this trilogy are incompetent and worthless. You try not to point to feminism and girl power as the reason why TLJ sucked but it's hard not to :mjlol:

It's just a damn mess of a movie, OP knows that but he's playing ignorant to keep a discussion going.
