Did rewatching Dragonball Z change opinions you had about certain characters?

Why does Goku need to seem like a hero? The English dub changes dialogue but not his actions so he still doesn't seem like much of a hero either way.
If you've ever watched the Japanese version you'd understand what I mean. In English they actually change goku's dialogue to make it seem like he fights for the greater good. In Japanese he acts like he does in super where he doesn't give a fukk about anything but testing his strength and getting stronger.

I remember when super first aired people were wondering why goku seemed so dumb and didnt give a shyt about anything compared to how he was by the end of Z, when that's actually been his character the whole time in japan. They just masked it in English.

He's a piece of shyt either way but atleast he doesn't seem so retarded in the English dub.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. They only change the dialogue. He still does stupid things tho like giving Cell a senzu bean, giving Frieza energy and letting him go, not kill Fat Buu. He seems retarded in the English dub because he has viewers wondering why he would do such things as they are not for the greater good. With the japanese version you know the reason why he's does that shyt. None of that "Hope of the Universe" shyt. He's open about his selfishness.

It's like when Piccolo stepped to him in the Cell Games, that shyt was aimed directly at the selfish japanese version of Goku.

I get that, but I prefer goku to not have the mentality of an 8 year old in special ed like the Japanese portrayal. Even tho he did questionable shyt in English, they didn't make him seem like a retarded child in a mans body.

He was a piece of shyt in both versions but he didnt seem flat out illiterate in English.

Can we talk about how Cell's first form is literally the boogeyman? While Frieza is the best villain because of his history, Imperfect Cell was by far the most menacing.

Just the whole concept of him would make a frightening horror movie. He's this gigantic insectoid looking thing that creeps around in the shadows and targets the everyday person. He didn't kill people by simply blowing them up either. He stabbed you with his tail and sucked your organs dry from the inside out, leaving nothing but your clothes scattered on the floor

I'll never forget that first scene of him absorbing someone in front of Piccolo. Piccolo was absolutely terrified

Then there were the scenes of empty towns littered with only the clothed remains of people Cell killed. Or those scenes where he became a slasher movie villian like when he impaled that couple with his tail at a carnaval. Looking back I'm surprised they didn't put DBZ on the Adult Swim block because of the way he killed people
Don't forget this

Even the dog was like :picard::dwillhuh::huhldup:

And yet Dragon Ball is a huge worldwide phenomenon, and in Latin America, where it actually had an accurate dub, DBZ's popularity eclipses its status over here and might even be bigger than it is in Japan.

FUNimation didn't need to change anything. And they definitely didn't change shyt for creative enhancements. They had horribly translated scripts and were so broke at the beginning of the production that they couldn't afford an actual translator, so they just made shyt up and tried to make it seem more like traditional American TV. But Dragon Ball Z would've stood out on its own anyway and succeeded with an accurate storyline and unheroic Goku, like it did literally everywhere else .

The original dub is trash, deal with it:yeshrug:. Yeah, it's what we grew up on in the states but it's a butchered representation of what Dragon Ball was.

The season 3 dub was downright embarrassing :mjlol:

(Chris Sabat redid Vegeta's voice on the '07 DVDs so he sounds better here, but the script is the same nonsense)

I noticed one mistake in my post. I said "doesn't" instead of does when I mentioned the stupid things he does. I'm posting while under the influence so in case you didn't get that part. I have since edited it.

I'd still take the poorly translated scripts over all the men sounding like women.

:yeshrug:

That goes for any anime.

I understood what you meant, and I agree that goku still did stupid shyt. I still prefer the more adult acting goku in the English translation over the mentally challenged goku in the Japanese portrayal.

Goku, Krillin, and Gohan are the only male characters voiced by women :mjlol: and in the case of all 3 of them, they started off as kids and they kept their kid voice actors because the audience was used to it. You see that shyt in American cartoons, too. Does this sound like a bunch of women to you?

Y'all shyt on Goku sounding like a girl but gladly accepted tranny Frieza making gay jokes. Guess dub fanboys don't reside in Harlem :dame:

They all sounded like whiny bytches
:mjlol:

Kid goku had more bass in his voice in English than goku as an adult in Japanese.

Have male characters voiced by females brehs.

Frieza has always been gay as fukk, but in Japanese they all sound equally as gay as he did.
