As I got older these two scenes in the dub between Goku and Frieza always stood out to me. A lot of folks have complained that that's not what Goku actually said to Frieza and all that but I think the dub nailed it. And I know that the Saiyans being black people and Frieza a white supremacist was never intended to be a parallel...but as a black man you can't deny Goku wasn't spitting some real shyt

Can we talk about how Cell's first form is literally the boogeyman? While Frieza is the best villain because of his history, Imperfect Cell was by far the most menacing.

Just the whole concept of him would make a frightening horror movie. He's this gigantic insectoid looking thing that creeps around in the shadows and targets the everyday person. He didn't kill people by simply blowing them up either. He stabbed you with his tail and sucked your organs dry from the inside out, leaving nothing but your clothes scattered on the floor

I'll never forget that first scene of him absorbing someone in front of Piccolo. Piccolo was absolutely terrified

Then there were the scenes of empty towns littered with only the clothed remains of people Cell killed. Or those scenes where he became a slasher movie villian like when he impaled that couple with his tail at a carnaval. Looking back I'm surprised they didn't put DBZ on the Adult Swim block because of the way he killed people

One of my favorite sequence in the Cell Saga is when Trunks, Gohan and Bulma if I remember right go retrieve Trunks' capsule and stumble upon another one identical but a lot older. They start to investigate and find a gigantic egg shell inside and also find out the protective glass of the cockpit has been severely damaged, like it was burnt from the inside.

And at this point, we don't know all the details yet, but we do realize that someone, or rather something, other than Trunks, came from the future and is hanging around the planet unleashed :lupe:

The difference in tone was stark at this moment. Akira Toryiama underrated :banderas: He wasn't a one trick poney and could do different, more subtle things

I like animes enough to tolerate subtitles but some people swear by Japanese voice acting over English. I'd rather watch English with bad acting than the whiny ass Japanese voices any day tho.

Japan always make their protagonist sound like women and I cant rock with that.

DBZ in particular is better in English in every way, they atleast try to make goku seem like a hero while he's literally retarded in the Japanese version, on top of sounding like a girl.
English version's Goku is the corniest one. I'd rather watch the Spanish version. His voice sounds so loud and out of place in that universe. It's like someone told the actor to go and try to sound like some Captain America or some other bland cartoon hero.

Just like Naruto. Can't stand his english version neither. I get he's supposed to be loud and annoying but when the character is supposed to be more subtle or have reflecting moments I feel like the actor can't follow.

Japanese>>>>>> french version>>>>

Bruh I'm watching this shyt for the first time and Gohan had one of the most traumatic childhoods I've ever seen. :picard:

nikka was getting slapped around and slammed like it was nothing. :dead:
Sees his old man blasted away after getting abducted, has to spend a year in the woods, sees his dad’s friends get blown up and dismembered, has to fight his dad after ginyu does the body switch, sees another friend get blown up, gets told to leave the planet that’s about to blow up while pop is fighting on it, and that’s all before turning 10

Rewatching it now, I never realized how much of an idiot Vegeta was in the Cell and Buu sagas. He was dope as a villain and his Namek run was :banderas:, but after killing 19, Vegeta was nothing but trouble after that. Dude made EVERYTHING worse :mjlol:

I also started to realize how badly Yamcha got screwed over. I didn't know what filler was at that point so as a kid I thought he was legit shining against the Ginyu Force and Olibu :snoop:

I never realized how useless the Supreme Kai was. Dude was millions of years old and still didn't realize how Potarra fusions work :gucci:

A lot of people want to big-up the Japanese soundtrack, but :patrice:
Kenji Yamamoto (the dude who did the original Japanese OST's ) got exposed for plagarizing nearly every song on those original soundtracks.

Peep those first two examples and notice how they straight jacked their whole sound when Future Trunks pulled up...

All Yamamoto did was bite :wow:

Continuing my rewatch now that I have some spare time again. The show became a bit of a mess in the android and cell saga. The characters decision making is next level bad during these arcs compared to the first 105 episodes, which is the point where namek explodes. Krillin just doesn’t alert anyone when he finds gero on his way to the lab :dahell:. Piccolo instead of warning the androids early on about cell chooses to fight 17, which lets cell know where they are :francis:. Neither android tries to escape when they’re repeatedly told to get away, even after 17 gets absorbed :snoop:. Krillin then destroys the remote to shut down 18 and Vegeta tells cell to go absorb her :gucci:. To top it all off there’s Goku giving cell a bean :martin:. Krillin is definitely the LVP of this whole arc. If he used common sense, 17 & 18 both get destroyed before they’re even activated and cell never gets either of them. The plot should never be driven forward by bad decision making by the protagonists. Also the site where I’m watching seems to have changing recordings of the voice acting for some reason.

Breh, the only person in this saga that didn't make an openly terrible decision of everybody involved was Tien. He's legit the only one that didn't actively fukk up at some point that I can remember. Even Bulma fukked up by not remembering Dr. Gero early on or warning Trunks/telling him that she knew where his lab would be and Yamcha didn't warn anybody about the late model Androids being able to absorb energy til Goku got his taken.

Vegeta wasn't interested in saving the world and being a hero until the 2nd half of the Buu saga. His only goal before the Fat Buu fight was being the strongest in the universe and didn't care about anything else. That's why he let Cell become Perfect and let Babidi turn him into a Majin. He was still a villain until near the end.

Everybody was to blame for the Cell saga. Goku choosing not kill Dr. Gero before he makes the Androids, Piccolo letting Imperfect Cell escape, Piccolo choosing to fight A17 (which gave away his location to Cell), A18 not running away when she had the chance, ASSJ Trunks not killing 18 when she was right next him, Krillin not pushing the button on 18, Goku and Gohan not going in the Time Chamber a 2nd time, SSJ2 Gohan not killing P.Cell right away, P.Cell never using Kaioken against Gohan, etc.

Also, Vegeta was the reason why Gohan beat Cell in the end (the sneak Big Bang Attack) and why Goku beat Buu in the end (the Spirit Bomb and the wishes with the Dragonballs were his idea).

Tien in the Android arc was kinda stupid too. He never thought to use his Tri Beam attack against 1st form Cell or even 17 & 18. That attack was able to hold back 2nd form Cell, just imagine what he could have done against weaker folks.

Going way back to Dragonball

Bulma really pulled out a pistol and shot a 10 year old boy in the head in some road rage shyt

If Goku wasn't a Saiyan he would've been slumped alone right there in the woods
