Feels like an overpay for that extension. Robinson and Barrett are the first two Knicks to get a second contract for multiple years after their rookie deals since Charlie Ward. :mjlol:
He took 60ms less than the rookie max and he also didn't do the full 5 years either :manny: Cap is also going up so RJ deal is even less league wide.

Right this means they took Barrett off of the table.

I wonder what happens next:jbhmm:

Seems like they don't want to budge on Picks either.
The Knicks thought they could get 3 bullshyt picks from OKC and flip it for Mitchell. Ainge saw what the value of those picks were and it was Ousmane Dieng, yet the Knicks think they can throw in a Dallas first or one of their short term ones and get themselves Mitchell. That's insulting. For that, Danny might as well call Presti and ask for 9 protected firsts.

This guy was on point with his sources it seems.

Offering 5 picks and RJ for Donovan is insane, but walking away from it is even crazier what the fukk is wrong with Ainge? He's gonna end up keeping Donovan on a team that's 37-45 and knock himself out of the Victor Wembanyama race. He won't have as much leverage in a trade if this goes into next season too. Ainge is letting either ego or delusion dictate negotiations.

I love this as a message about this FO. Saying you are out of negotiations and setting a deadline is one thing but actually doing something that basically trashes 8 weeks worth of work to say your out by leaking it to Woj? That’s an amazing display of confidence, negotiating, and spite by Leon Rose.

Also by leaking what was offered will have every other FO looking at Ainge sideways too. That offer was a fair offer and Ainge was just greedy. There is a good chance Utah is going to have to forget Victor and look to rebuild around Mitchell.

As for the Knicks I still expect them to do a trade this season. What I don’t know, but cap wise it makes sense to add another player who can be extended for that Rose/Fournier cap money. With RJ’s extension the Knicks are going to be limited in FA. Draft wise they have more picks than they can use too and still have roster glut.

three of those picks are worthless and even if they convey, will only be middling picks, the kind of picks you need if you just need bodies.

I've said this already this summer and Imma die on this hill: the Jazz shouldn't be doing all of this for Wembanyama. If you get him, great, but the Jazz need Scoot more than anyone. The point of trading the big man is that you think you can get by with Walker Kessler on the cheap playing defense. Even if you struck gold in getting Victor, who's passing him the ball? Next year's guard class sucks and free agency ain't much better.

I also think Ainge (and Presti) are very very foolish in believing that someone will have a price tag attached to Wemby if they get the top pick. Even the teams with young bigs like Duren and Mark Williams won't trade Wemby if they luck out; they'll entertain the other guys and protected 1's won't cut it.

they're better off focusing on the international players like wemby over scoot because these brothas ain't staying. :francis:

there's no way puma wants scoot in Utah after the bag they just dropped

I didn't say that's why they did the deal. I'm saying the value of those picks has already been established. Sprinkling in some future bench players for the Jazz and another pick doesn't magically turn into Donovan Mitchell.

If the Knicks never traded with OKC, would Dieng, RJ, Fournier and 2 1's feel like something Ainge can't turn down?

they just traded a dude who extended with them and woulda stayed there for life. You think Wemby's in a group chat with slime getting a strong endorsement in favor of Utah?

Matter of fact, even more of a reason to draft Scoot. Kessler will run that state if he's halfway decent. All Kessler gotta do is average 12 and 8 and be near the league leaders in blocks and he has a 5 year max deal with his name on it. Victor who?

Nah if Victor is really that guy that everyone thinks he could be you tank for him if you are Utah. Sacrifice Mitchell and start the rebuild. Mitchell is def getting traded.

The question isn't whether Ainge feels like he can turn it down. It's whether or not he can find a better offer before whatever deadline they've set on moving Mitchell and settling into that tank.

To be fair we don’t know what the three protected picks were. They could have been a mixture of Knicks picks with protections. The feel I got was the Knicks weren’t moving the picks from the 2022 draft trade but protecting the Knicks own picks being sent out.

Idk the lottery odds are pretty damn flat. I never thought Ainge goal was to tank. The league has made tanking far from a sure thing. I always thought his goal was to get enough assets from a team to ensure those picks are lottery picks.

If the Knicks gave Ainge 4 unprotected picks and the two to three youth like he originally wanted. They would be a injury away from Ainge getting a guaranteed lottery pick back and just knowing the Knicks it would be multiple picks. Add that to the haul of assets he got from the wolves and Utahs own picks and the Jazz are sitting real pretty rebuild wise. Basically he would have three teams futures to rebuild the Jazz.
