Seriously though if they can move Randle and Fournier, get Mitchell, keep it under 5 picks, and keep Toppin, Grimes or Reddish they go for it.

Picks aside, I would have to assume that means Obi is safe. So we’d have to send out either one of Grimes/IQ and Cam or Grimes, IQ and McBride to the Jazz to make the math work. Julius, Fournier and Rose would all be Lakers. Then we’d cut Westbrook and have some serious cap space next off season even though that class is trash. This also means we have to give up less picks and can save them for another deal.

Projecting a bit, we wouldn’t need a bunch of contracts to trade for a big, Robinson and picks should get us in the conversation for whatever star is available next summer.

They could have used that depth… also they brought Ray Back and his time in Denver ruined him. Also Mozgov who was a reliable center for a good chunk of his career. Gallo is still kicking around and compare Wilson Chandler to Shawne Williams who basically replaced him.

Anyhow the real crime of the Melo trade is they could have signed Melo in FA and still had all those guys on the roster. I think Gallo might have been a RFA that year but everybody else was under contract.

They were good depth, but that's all. They were depth pieces. Had the Knicks let Billups expire and amnestied Amare simultaneously, they could have really had options to build something tailor-made around him. The amnesty was the big miss imo.

They definitely shoulda tried to call Denver's bluff with a hard line on their offer. It could have backfired badly, but I think it would have been worth it to run that risk. The trade at the end of the day wasn't bad though.
