New piece from the Athletic about what happened this season

An inside look at the factors that led to the inevitable break up between Kemba Walker and the Celtics

Cliffs
- Hayward told Stevens before he left that he needed to have a stronger voice in the locker room if they wanted to win
- Stevens & Kemba clashed this season, he felt Stevens went harder on him than other players, especially because of his defensive mistakes
- Kemba wanted out, felt he wasn’t in long term plans and was pissed that fans booed the team when they played bad
- Kemba was loved by his teammates but his voice in the locker room was undercut by him struggling to match his talk on the court
- Writer questions whether trading players Tatum is close with will impact how he views the team
- Smart & Horford were the backbone of the team’s defensive identity and with Horford gone, players started to tune Smart out. Smart & Brown got into it during the playoffs last season
- Players felt Stevens showed favoritism to Smart and didn’t hold him accountable
- Multiple players wanted a new coach
- Some felt that the players not caring about Kyrie stomping the logo showed that they don’t have pride for the organization that former players had
- Blake Griffin was interested in coming to the Celtics but a player on the team told him not to come because it was too dysfunctional
- Players want the new coach to be a Black former player and Stevens appears to be listening with Chauncey Billups, Darvin Ham & Ime Udoka all getting second interviews
- Trading Kemba was also a financial move to help re-sign Fournier & Time Lord
- Time Lord may need to be on load management this season due to injury concerns
- Writer expects Smart to be the PG this season

Keep in mind this is all alleged so take it for what it’s worth

Knew it

Brad Steven's lack of a backbone and lack of leadership caused the dysfunction in the Locker room. Also contributed to the dysfunction with the 2018-2019 Celtics team as well. Also caused the team to lack heart and identity
fukkin knew it :blessed:

Smart at point guard :snoop:. I would only allow it if there is a real coach in that locker room to hold him accountable and for him to play like a real pass first point guard and spot up shooter

Key word is a real coach that holds him accountable

Anybody that has watched this team over the past 7 years could tell that Smart had free reign to do whatever the hell he wanted. I won’t even mind keeping Smart if the new coach will check him on his bullshyt.

Also another part of that piece that I forgot to mention is that players were frustrated with how Stevens was running the offense, they felt it was too iso-heavy and was like a college offense.

100% agree. Bet money the main reason for the Jaylen vs Smart fight in the bubble was because of Steven's lack of accountability to Smart and Jaylen having to step in :mjlol::francis:

Since when is ISO ball a college offense?

Also, you don’t think Tatum and Brown are calling for that ISO themselves?

I get the Brad slander, but cmon man, the Jay’s need to make their teammates better and they aren’t gonna listen to a coach to do it. They are going to have to decide for themselves.

Need a third option and Defense in the worse way. Hopefully horford helps but a 7 footer would be nice.

Clear as day he wasn't a strong enough leader and players tuned him out this year. He needs to go back to college if he wants to be a HC competing for championships.

Not mad with the moves so far as an exec though. But he needs to listen to the players on who they want as their HC.

Luckily Mike Zarren and Austin Ainge are still there as Assistant GMs with the Celtics to help run the team
