The problem with microsoft is that they have very little involvement in the game development side of things. They throw money at studios and allow them to do what they want, and those studios end up having issues with a lack of direction. The idea behind buying publishers is that they'll be able to manage themselves without microsoft’s involvement. I feel like that's a bandaid solution to the real issue.
he talks about that

His comment about the 11/10 games not moving the needle is unfair and defeatist, honestly.

PS4 had God of War, Last of Us 1 and 2, Spiderman, Ghost of Tsushima etc etc. They went hard as fukk with their owned studios and built an incredible catalog, while MS was doing God-knows-what that gen. They had absolutely nothing beyond Forza and a handful of others to show for it.

That relentless barrage of amazing games completely solidified PS4 as the top player. And he's right about that digital library living on, but what about all the studios you just bought? Where are the great exclusives?

WiiU was a flop of epic proportions, but beyond the gimmick of the Switch being new and unique hardware, the 1st party hitters (Zelda, Mario, Mariokart, Xenoblade) all dropped the first year and haven't let up since. Their fans pay full retail for ports and graphically inferior games, because they're usually THAT good

I'm sorry, but good games sell consoles. At least to me

he did make a good point about taking risks. in this age of remakes and sequels, tying something new is inherently risky, and could end in failure, but it has to be done to make any kind of progress
:sas2:MS can afford it right?

warchest am I right?

just dropped 68 billion on a failed acquisition. they should be alright.

Also, a lot easier when you have a trillion dollar corporation backing you, and when it comes to games im still not seeing actual risks being taken. They are still making Halo, Gears, Forza, only now they have Zenimax games exclusively on their platform.
they got new IP's in the pipeline. we'll see what they show June 11th

he talks about that
He talks about it with such a defeatist mentality that it feels like he's saying there's no way to change it.

Microsoft has like 30 studios and unlimited resources, all they need is 4-5 new hit IPs and people will feel like owning an Xbox is worth it.

Imagine if M$ didn’t fukk up the Xbox one reveal. I wonder what the console market would look like then.

Still the same due to the Red Ring nonsense :francis: . Even if the Xbone came out swinging, the grim reality is that gamers remember EVERYTHING.

Hence why some developers get no fly zoned due to the unification of gamers. Ask Sega about them hardships.

This part also.

Nintendo isn’t my favorite console, but looking objectively at what they did right this generation, they took their beating with the Wii U and came back strong as hell. Their first year had like 4 GOTY type titles and they’ve been firing off hits since.

Microsoft had a bad generation and they started off this current gen BAD. Their launch titles consisted of a port of gears tactics and a DLC for Gears 5, then they released nothing else until Flight Simulator, a niche as fukk port again, then forza and halo, then nothing else the following year.

They had a huge opportunity to grab a significant portion of mindshare from Sony the first two years and they did absolutely nothing. If you’re going to concede and entire generation to the competition you should have been planning on coming back strong like Nintendo did.

If Starfield (in good condition) had dropped last year we’d be having a completely different conversation right now.

he conceded a lot of the points yall are making. did you want him to come out and act like everything's ok?

all they can do is move forward, and hopefully learn from their mistakes

Bro u just been making OD excuses and there's really no excuse. If I only had an Xbox this gen this interview would feel like a blow to the stomach. Homie act like he ain't even willing to try. If he's so comfortable being in 3rd place. Why spend all of that money on acquisitions in the first place? He's being disingenuous and making excuses. To act like having great games won't help sell a console it's retarded. They had a fresh start with the Series X. And literally did nothing. PS3 did it with the 360 after losing half that generation.

Dude said that if you make great games people still wouldn't buy your console :dead:

If theres actually great exclusive games besides Halo and Forza , with the type of quality of Naughty Dog games ...people will buy your console and the one after that. Doesn't he realize people get attached to I.P's and characters? Who is there to get attached to on the Xbox platform besides masterchief whose already on the decline?

he doesn't say that great games won't help sell consoles. just that it's an incredibly uphill battle to get out of 3rd place

Yup. So far like another poster explained they have had nothing really that great. Hi-Fi rush was nice but it was a small niche game.
They could've had a hit with Halo Infinite but that was :trash: a month after release. Right now the games that do come out that are great can be played on PS5 and PC where those platforms have SOMETHING worth buying it for.

Switch is still last gen and it's about to get arguably the GOTG next week.

Sony got Spider-Man 2 later this year with FFXVI next month. Unknown exclusives are still tbd for this year.

Xbox has been inconsistent.
Let’s be real if Hi-Fi Rush was on PS5 or exclusive no one what have gave a fukk about that game because of the high quality triple A exclusives it provides. All Microsoft needs to do is provide amazing exclusive experiences on their platform. Microsoft should be at a point where they are almost dropping a game every month on game pass which necessarily doesn’t need to be triple AAA it could even be indie games. Atleast until the triple AAA games are ready. I think gamepass is a good platform for indie devs and instead of looking at activision purchase Microsoft should be investing heavily in that department. Especially since gamepass is Also on PC.

Son I watched what u watched. He basically sounds like he gave up. Look at his body language. It's not only about what he says. It's about how he says it. On top of that. He was wrong. Games absolutely would help Microsoft. People want games. Not all of that other bullshyt. As u can see by the success of the Switch after the failure of the WiiU.
