The US didn't decide to drop the bombs until fairly far into it

LOL. But in the OP u just said Japan were monsters in the region before WW2 and thats actually what made the US drop the bombs.

First it was before WW2 now u say it was fairly far into WW2.

To be fair their military today is pretty potent, they just haven't had much reason for fukkery until the recent Chinese aggression.
This as well… we’re solid allies but they could still get busy if they felt like it

I think they're more focused on technology instead of flat out warring though

We could learn a lot from their society

This is verifiably false. They have one of the most powerful militaries in the world. Obviously the US plays a major role in security in the area as well.

Their tenacious attitude is what made the nukes happen.

The same attitude which made them so aggressive and heartless in their region

We didn't do it for revenge for China. But the way they did China was indictive of their approach to warfare.

If we coulda did them like we did Germany they may have just invaded.

And people are extremely incorrect to say they don’t have a military.

They do have a military… or a Joint Armed Forces just like we do here.. they just call it some other shyt.

But they have ICMB’s, they train in hand to hand combat, they have about 300k soldiers, etc…

But they're also allied with us which is why their military budget doesnt have to be huge since we have many bases out there and in between. Why do you think we’ve been developing Guam and guess who's there too… Japan.

Edit: North Korea not even on the list, which is why we get sick of their bullshyt

I don’t think they were ready to die like that.. more like propaganda to get those pilots to kill themselves for their country on some “honor” shyt.

Not die in a battle or something… literally kill themselves by flying their planes into shyt. And none of the people giving the order were willing to do the same.

I think they've grown to realize that Kamikaze shyt was bullshyt.

powerful on paper maybe but they're not even fully functional in the regard of a true self-defense force. anything practical or projected is kinda up in the air as they've been largely removed for a very, very long time. reputation only goes so far, especially these days...

shyt, they only recently (2019?ish maybe) started proactive ownership of their own anti-piracy necessities
As many exercises Ive been in with them, their potent enough
yeah they're good at looking good at exercises. and rolling out modern equipment that doesn't regularly see action. beyond that?

there's countries that actually get their feet wet and regularly provide substantial real involvement to ensure real world action isn't some abstract for a large majority of their personnel. like phillipines have the label of fukkery and corruption - but they got to it against ISIS in jungles when a lot of the world was like fukk that in general. india is fukkery and comedy, but they stay ready consistent border crises. its never pretty in or around turkey. etc they all get criticism, but they're in conflict and tested against *something*.

japan? NK launches missiles and they call SK like the ROK boys haven't been waiting on a fade with them too :pachaha:

they have a large economy and a well funded military that trains not to fight, but to look good for their primary security benefactor - the US.

Which countries on that list actually get their feet wet more than Japan?

Most of these cats havent seen a real war since WW2 or vietnam either… so theyre doing the same exercises as well.

Russia getting smacked left and right by Ukraine because their soldiers havent seen a real war either.. and Ukraines military isnt even close to Japans

there hasn't been a WW2 since WW2. and I don't think its fair to say that every country needs to be involved in every benchmark of warfare modernization ever like the US has

but Japan does not regularly involve itself in combat to ensure its even familiar with training, planning, mobilizing, etc that scales to their force/strengths because their only metric for success is success is mimicking what the US does to guarantee continued alignment with zero practical context and their growth is filtered by what the rest of the pacific allows

japan's military can boast showpiece displays and financial weight - however, they have not been active enough to have the reputation as the best anything. in iraq and afghanistan, aussies and even poles were a regular sight. you were more likely to see a japanese journalist than a soldier or vehicle though. when japan's own ships got attacked by pirates, they couldn't rely on their own military to provide solutions.

not gonna call them the IG model of militaries but if someone were to use that analogy, it wouldn't be far off
