Look at multi-monitor setups on pcs, where they are spanning the desktop over 3 or more monitors. That will give you a clue as to whether its legit tech or not.

Ok, enough with pictures, but to explain, this is how we see the world. For the :flabbynsick: like myself, you probably remember that tube tv's were not flat until the 90s. They were in fact, curved, but in the opposite direction. This was because the cathode ray gun was closer to curved in corners than flat corners. It took extra circuits and tech to make the screen flat and not have faded, blurry corners. Older projection tv's were the same way, but in the opposite direction. The projector was fixed in front of the screen and the screen was curved in the way you see these sets, but on both x and y. I mention this because, the projector guns are just like eyes in shape. This is how we see the world. Yes, a flat screen is pretty, but you will make out the corners better if they are curved inwards as well as it improving depth perception. This should go for all viewing angles, not just the center. Eventually, you will see the curve go to both plane. The idea of this being a fad or gimmick is simply incorrect. If it goes out, its because something better came out, but is is legit to the human eye.

:why:

The movie theater and IMAX screens are curved
I hate reviewers sometimes
it's not good for TV technology cause ur peripheral view can see outside of the edges..the screens on a tv isn't big enough to give the effect...it's only IMAX screens that are curved by the way..the shyt DOES NOT MAKE SENSE FOR A LIVING ROOM. especially for people who sit off center..

I am pretty sure this is supposed to be for larger TV's...I'd say 60 inches or better...and then you would have to set pretty close to get the effect of the image "surrounding you"...

Outside of that...yeah it's stupid...

I need that 4K 3D Curved TV in my life :noah:

For someone who collects blu-rays and loves movies like myself then this tv is a must. Hell, gaming would be dope on it, too.

:wow:
LG even got one that's flexible

Unless you get a TV over 60 inches, than its rather pointless and even then only only if every one is situated near the center from a viewing standpoint.

I saw the curved 4k TV's at Best Buy this past weekend and the shyt looks good. Now with the way my living room is set up, I wouldn't do a curved TV. I do want a 4k TV hopefully the price will be down for Black Friday but right now my TV can be flat and I would be just fine with that.

The Original Rec Room Gang
"Currently, the hottest trend from TV manufacturers is to offer curved panels, but analysts say it's nothing more than a ploy to pander to consumers who want the latest, coolest-looking tech in their home. In the end, the TVs don't offer better picture quality. In fact, they offer a degraded view to anyone sitting off center. Samsung and LG claim that the curve provides a cinema-like experience by offering a more balanced and uniform view so that the edges of the set don't appear further away than the middle. Paul Gray, director of European TV Research for DisplaySearch, said those claims are nothing by pseudo-science. "Curved screens are a gimmick, much along the same lines as 3D TVs are," said Paul O'Donovan, Gartner's principal analyst for consumer electronics research."
I was believing this thread, why not believe it :manny:
But then I came across the bolded part and now I have to take this study and :camby:
Not all 3DTV's are the same. Some have 60hz refresh rates when you need at the very least 120
But 240 and up is recommended. I have a decent small sized 3DTV and I've watched Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, 3D Porn/etc. And all of those looked fantastic in 3D. So calling it a gimmick is bullshyt
Now my shawty got a crucial 3DTV in her living room. And the 3D on that looks better than the 3D in Imax
Watched Alice in wonderland again over there just last week
The end scene where she fights and beheads the dragon? Her running up that tower thingy? :ohlawd:

If this researcher can get that wrong, I don't see why I should listen to his curved TV theory even if he is correct. I'd just rather see it from a more reliable source at this point imo :manny:
