I'd presume so I remember when I had to take malaria drugs I started taking them a week before I even went on the plane

What side effects did you have?

I've asked my mom again to try to think of all side effects the drug has caused her over the years. She added one more, which is night terrors.

So far for her its:

Hair loss (biotin supplements do help)
Night terrors (clonazepam helps a lot)
Itching (nothing helps that shyt lol)
Nausea

Yeah, there are a lot of dynamics at play here I don't think people usually have to worry about

You have scientists and even doctors who want to be the first to maybe be the head of breakthroughs and what not. Not downing the possible treatment of Hydroxych...whatever but the reason it sort of "meme'd" itself into the online sphere is through the social media campaign of some French doctor who didn't really follow standard study protocols.

Then as always, you have the media that not only wants the first scoop but given budget cuts with a lot of news organizations, their science reporting in particular long before this has always been poor. You also have the unique situation where a lot of the journalists have been focused on the political nature of news for so long that when they are dealing with science they either don't ask the right questions in a science context or know how to parse the information received correctly.

Then you have pharmaceutical companies that of course want to make money and you see what are essentially PR campaigns for certain drugs like that Remdesiver.

All sorts of traps and shyt you have to watch out for with this right now.

Yeah exactly.

I have no dog in the fight of the specific posts I'm quoting.

There was an article claiming COVID-19 caused men to become sterile.

There was an article claiming men were more likely to get it, because we have balls.

Then this article about Hydrowhateverthefukk.

Then a few others that I can't remember. All without peer review.

I get that people are anxious and want to keep informed but this thread has turned into people finding every piece of info they can find, and posting it with no context. Which is why I fell back from posting in here as often as I was.

Oh no, I'm not speaking about her having symptoms of Covid. I'm talking about the hydroxycholorquine she takes. Scarf was mentioning the malaria drug he took and I was wondering what side effects he had, if any. Given that hydroxychloroquine is an anti malarial, I thought there may be some similarities, or maybe he took the actual drug already.

I'm trying to crowd source information from people who have real experience with these medications that keep being listed as saviors or cures.

To be fair this is a unique time in history. In any other time most published peer reviewed studies are read by very few people. Everyone is starved for new information and glimmers of hope. Many people with no knowledge of the scientific process are absorbing data in this manner for the first time and can’t be blamed for having difficulty deciphering what’s what.

They can be blamed when they're linking articles that literally say "this is not meant for public consumption" and/or "this is not meant to be a basis for medical treatments".

And it's not offering glimmers of hope. I remember the non-peer reviewed article that mentioned "COVID-19 may cause sterility" scared the fukk out of people, until I pointed out it was just a glorified theory that hadn't been properly tested.

And there has been zero info on it since. So all that article did, was rile people up for no reason.
