Could a top NYC rapper bring that old NYC/East Coast sound back like Kendrick did or are niccas too gone riverdancing to UK/90's sample drill beats?

I actually agree with that.

We got away from consistent high quality Hip Hop a long time ago, and have forgotten what it feels like for classic albums to drop like damn near every week. I don’t even think most people today who claim to be "fans" were even around when that was the case. So we're kinda stuck in this trash era where wack sh*t is everywhere and being pushed as dope.

I think that's why a lot of us still listen to the old sh*t all day. There's nothing dropping right now that can f*ck with any of that. So I'm fine with just rocking with the old classics. They've been holding me down forever.
I was born but not cognizant, but my own misadventures with hip-hop made me study the greats and the peak era plus I have an uncle 22 years my senior who was schooling me overall.

If hip-hop was a person the 90s was its 20s... its physical peak. Then and now makes sense :francis:
you know honestly, one person that might could do it is Nicki Minaj. if she copped a few Harry Fraud beats, and had some young drill/jersey club producers flip some gritty neck snapping NYC type bangers, but faster and updated to their style, and if she rapped her ass off properly like she can but never does, then she might be the only one with the skill level and influence to maybe set off some momentum to that sound again
Nah...rap is wrestling and reality TV...for the phenomenon we're asking for, it has to be a fresh new character for people 30 and under, really 25 and under, to rally behind.

Nicki has had 15 years in people's consciousness and has lived long enough to see herself become the villain (to some or many). Nicki having a renaissance will gain her a Godmother status but won't raise the city/region.

The figure also has to be a male, unfair as it is.

If I said Sexyy Red of all people has the city on smash the last couple of years among all these youngins (especially the dudes for some reason), it would be hard for you to argue against it. Sexyy Red!
Gotta come back to this, this was a crazy jab my G…shyts wack NY posters be some of the most self deprecating with this topic lmao

Idk no youngings that listen to Sexy Red. I get it bro you was at the Dyckman courts this summer and they played her shyt summer and it was lit. :mjlol:

The kids listen to straight drill rap and the 20 something year old crowd rocks with the slizzy shyt.

This show just took place in the city…how we not self sustaining

Him and Boogie selling out arenas worldwide

U know they don’t match the criteria of “NY rapper”

These dudes want a Benny or Dave East to be mainstream “that’s bringing NY back” shyts never gonna happen

Of course, if a rapper is as hot and nice as Kendrick.

People posting indie rappers tryna compare it with what stars do. Beyonce dropped like 80s dance, country, all types of shyt and they blow up.

That is, anyone with star power, backing, money and talent can do it.

Just like, just because Timberlake could make neo soul and sell millions in 2013. doesn't mean that any random soul artist could do it. People bought it for his machine and star power.

She could do an all female NY album

There’s some female spitters in the drill scene

She ain’t doing Harry beats though :mjlol:

A$AP Rocky could try it but he rather make psychedelic songs with a random guitar player he saw in the street in London :snoop: he appreciates shyt from afar but doesn’t ride the waves in the city

This board skews older, none of these artists got multi-generational appeal in comparison to someone like Rocky.

I liked Chow Lee's album but I'm in my 20s. Can't really get into most artists out here. I do kind of agree some views on this are out of touch cause Cash Cobain has industry wide motion in comparison to the dudes on Dots album.
