Could a top NYC rapper bring that old NYC/East Coast sound back like Kendrick did or are niccas too gone riverdancing to UK/90's sample drill beats?

Al you need is a nikka that takes more of a Q-Tip/mid-90s Mobb Deep approach to boom bap to get that shyt poopping again.

This right here.

People keep naming a lot of dudes that can't rap. NY needs someone on the level of a 90's Nas or B.I.G.. It has to get back to the talent being special and mad unique. Someone that comes in and can rap like how Hov was on his debut. Or like Lord Finesse in the early 90's. Mos Def in the mid to late 90's. NY doesn't need any more anthems or dudes who have a popular record for a few months, then vanishes. There needs to be a push for some generational MC's who can outrap everybody and make actual cohesive albums that'll last forever on some classic sh*t.

The standard got too low after 2004, and people started accepting any bum who hopped on a beat. We need to get back to calling these n*ggas wack, and throwing them off the stage like KRS was doing. Once people start clowning wack sh*t, we'll start seeing dudes pop up who don’t slack when it comes to the rapping and can really get busy and lead the sh*t back in the right direction.

A Villa Straylight.
Envy, 22, Coach, Sheff and Sleepy all dropped the ball, especially Envy since bro was nice and could actually rap to any type of beat. But nikkas focused on beefing and missed their chances. The only one left is Fivio and well, Fivio is Fivio… :francis:
This is another problem. These dudes can't stay out of street shyt.

Sheff just released a dope project and it doing decent numbers but nobody gone put money behind him until he shows he can stay out of jail. He was literally like the leader of his gang/crew

I actually agree with that.

We got away from consistent high quality Hip Hop a long time ago, and have forgotten what it feels like for classic albums to drop like damn near every week. I don’t even think most people today who claim to be "fans" were even around when that was the case. So we're kinda stuck in this trash era where wack sh*t is everywhere and being pushed as dope.

I think that's why a lot of us still listen to the old sh*t all day. There's nothing dropping right now that can f*ck with any of that. So I'm fine with just rocking with the old classics. They've been holding me down forever.

The thread premise asked for a "top NYC rapper" that could "bring back the traditional NYC/East Coast sound".

He's not a top MC anywhere so he does not have the cache to bring anything back. And that song is both proof and not proof.
hes a competent rapper but he hasnt done anything that kool g rap hasnt done. even the gory shyt has been done by kool g before. his early stuff was funny and i was in 9th grade so yeah but i couldnt imagine listening to him as an adult :pachaha:

but i mean wtf can i really say, kool g rap co-signs the guy so what the fukk do i know :yeshrug:

that beat he gave Rae was nice

@Crumple i know you like necro but i would encourage you to avoid that dude he seems like he screws people over. on reddit he claimed he wanted 50k for a beat :pachaha:

I agree the early 2000s NYC rap sound is what would pop off.

We need a spitter that's equally a great songwriter for it to take off. The West Coast has dope songwriters like Vince, Tyler, Kendrick and even Q.

Cash needed to find one a while ago.
Glad someone is being honest.

Bottom line NYC doesn’t have that rapper

Okay.

We're differentyou talk about not listening to music as an adult - I still wear baggy jeans and DC shoes, but I work and get money off my music on top of that.

Necro didn't screw anyone. Know that Dre charges $100,000+ for beats.

If anything Necro has incredibly great integrity.

It takes alot to build up the following he has.

To me, he IS leading New York rap right now.

Some ppl on Coli just don't see it. The numbers show it tho.
