He would't be president today if he didn't. We ALL know this. NO way is a black pandering semi-militant brotha getting elected POTUS. It's not and won't ever happen. The fact we even got to see a black president in our lifetime was incredible. I don't expect him to be perfect, but his words and actions show that he is a person that I can tell cares about us as black people. There's times where you can tell that Michelle is frustrated due to her not being able to say what she really wants to, but she doesn't because she understands the big picture.

While I understand what Rev Wright was getting at, he should have been smart enough to understand (which he did eventually) that he had to take a step back in order for his friend to step forward. Low key, but I respect him for that.

Trying to pander to one demographic/group will not get you to the highest office in the land. And again while Obama is president, the real power in this country always lied with Congress. While Obama can create legislation, Congress has to approve it.

he has talked about real issues though...those that are a problem for ALL americans. Again fam, he just can't pander specifically to black issues being black. While it frustrates me at times, I understand why.

I want to add to this by relaying my personal experience with "anti-capitalist" Cornell West. My graduate department was holding a symposium, which was inspired by the OWS movement. I was in charge of securing a guest speaker, and given our larger than normal budget I reached out to Cornell West. His immediate response was to ask for twice the amount of our whole guest speaker coffers (the compensation was quite generous as is), a first class plane ticket, and limo transportation services to and from the best hotel in the area. The demands were exorbitant. I tried to scrounge up a few more dollars, and appeal to his commitment to student mind, body, and spirit, but I probably would have had better luck attempting to engage Bill O'Reilly. I still respect the man, but I walked away pretty disillusioned over him, personally.

It's never been the presidents job to protect the citizens from harming each other. That's local law enforcements responsiblity.. And if and when they fail, community groups should mobilize and unite to protect themselves.
