They are the most soccer obsessed country in the world and I don’t think it’s close. Haven’t won an Olympic medal since 2000. Have won 2 golds in history and those were in soccer. I think the Rugby team is ok. Just one big national IMG academy.
Was listening to a U.S. soccer podcast and they went down there for Copa America 1995. The U.S. players said they were mobbed outside their hotel room and people would sit and stare at them through the glass all day. You are talking about the US national team in 1995. Super mid. A team with literal semi-pros yet the Uruguayans treated them like royalty.
