You do know parents instill the culture they have onto their children, right?

That makes no sense.
I grew up with mostly foreigners, and there were tons who didn't, which is why I keep asking this question, but getting no real answers.

Let me ask you what culture are they instilling. Give me Jamaican culture they are instilling.

See you are playing games now!

You know exactly what I mean!

The only reason people use the nationality of someone who isn't from there is to say the culture of land contributed to hat person being who they are.

Why do yall play these mind games?!
I don't understand what the confusion is

Jamaicans are just cool people to me(when they are not being ignorant), but I think the influence is more from back in the day then recent. When reggae, and dancehall came out, it was new to see a black person with a different accent, and different form of music that is different but not so much that you can't vibe to it. Then they were the only black people talking about weed, and in a spiritual way, so it was just a new thing. They were like a new form of cool black americans, but since the 90's, I don't see any influence anymore.

Jamaica is living off an old rep, just like NYC, and LA are.
You probably not looking hard enough. Biggest rapper in the world has that Jamaican influence all throughout Views. A lot of the pop songs on the radio are dancehall influenced. The fact that a country of 2.7 million has the fastest man of all time and woman in last years olympics. When I travel people are like :krs: your Jamaican? For a 100 mile long country, thats not dong too bad :smugdraper:

Do you think the average white American and the average black American share the same culture :patrice:
in the south, yes.

We both bbq. We both love fried chicken, and soul food, they just call it southern food. Who do you think was cooking for their family all those years? We both love the same music, at least until rap because the norm, and a lot of whites still listen to it. We both love guns, although whites are extreme with it. I'm sure there is more, but the point is these things are what make your country different from others.

We have more in common then we don't, its just because this country is based on fear, we tend to look at more of our differences then our likes.

I explained it!

No one says they are a nationality for no reason. Even @Concerning VIolence basically admitted to it when he posted "You do know parents instill the culture they have onto their children, right?" It's all about the culture you are raised in, not just calling yourself something because you feel like it.

The issue is a lot of the people who OTHERS claim as a certain nationality, don't have the culture that is being put on them. They are just giving them that title based on the parents, and in some cases the grandparents, even though the child is damn near, if not totally, American.

Come on, are serious? Do you know people see Jamaican with weed, and rasta? I would be mad as hell if that is all I was known for for decades, especially when I know we are more then that.

That is called trying to sell records. They did the same thing to black music with EDM a few years ago. And the same thing happened in the 90's. Dancehall, and Reggae was the new thing to have with a rapper. Once his new shyt comes out, it will be forgotten with the masses, just like it was before he needed something different change his sound. Influential means it would be everywhere organically, not just for artist to piggyback, and sell some records. This is exactly what Mr.Vegas was complaining about, people just doing it because it's hot, and will leave it in a few months, while giving no one any props, and money.

The fastest man is not being influential, don't lower yourself black man!

How many black americans you heard go crazy when we had sports stars win Olympics in recent times, and not during segregation?

I feel too many Jamaicans want approval from others, instead of being them, and growing. What I mean is we see they have the creativity needed to make new things, and be abundant, but they just keep doing the same old thing, hoping others would recognize them. The music sounds the same, the styles of dress are basically the same, the food is the same, and I feel they should add more to the culture instead of wanting everyone to give them their props from old shyt. I'm not hating, its just an observation.

there's differences and overlap between nationality ethnicity and culture.

Let's take Biggie as an example :
Born in the US
Parents are from Jamaica

He'd be most accurately described as Jamaican American. However, we can assume he identified as American or African American. Now African American is an ethnicity but all black people are also grouped under this label.

However there are plenty of kids of Jamaican heritage that identify with both Jamaica and the us and have more connections to Jamaica then Biggie so they may identify with their. Culture/ethnicity (Jamaican) as a way to either accurately describe their identity or to differentiate themselves

And you are doing it AGAIN!

I didn't post it was wrong to say it, I gave specific examples where people still gave them the title when it didn't apply, which is A LOT of cases. This is why I'm confused as to why a lot do it.

Let me ask you, would yo consider Fabolos Domincan? And why, or why not?

You do know the Olympics is not just recently?

And this is what I'm talking about, you act like this is something new, and is a big deal!

How is that going to help Jamaica get a better place in this world economically?

:gucci::gucci:. What are you talking about bruh. Jamaica is a country with its own culture. The culture is always changing, what was happening in the 70s is definitely not whats happening now. Jamaica has a strong culture that people around the world want to consume, it is as simple as that. Once again a country of 2.7 million people, having a major influence.

If you come with argument then that pop is using dancehall/reggae to sell records then ok, but why arent they drawing their influences from countries with significantly larger populations. Why no Thai music, why no Egyptian, why no Australian?

The fastest man in the world puts a spotlight on the island, everyone wants to know what makes Jamaica so special, that you have all these sprinters coming from such a small population .

All im saying, we make a big impact for such a small place..

I'm not Dominican so I don't decide who is Dominican or not . I do know that based on DR nationality law legally he is Dominican

You are getting mad, and not thinking about what I'm posting.

I originally wrote since the 90's, the influence isn't there, not the 70's.

The people wnat to consume the reggae, jerk chicken, and weed. i deal with whites, and it even gets to me that as soon as they talk about Jamaica, they say "hey mon" talk about weed, and then say "Jah rastafari". It's been like that since the 80's!

The reason no one is talking about those other regions is because of RAP!

You know damn well if you heard a rap influenced song from those places you could care less because you wouldn't know what they are saying. Dancehall, and Reggae is different but not so much that you can't vibe to it. I already posted this, but your anger is blinding you!

I agree they are infulential, but its from an old rep just like NYC, and L.A. Again, I posted this already!

So, why did you ask me that question?

i was waiting for someone to say it, and basically that is the ONLY reason you should give claim to all who deserves it, for LEGAL REASONS!

And you don't have to be dominican to give someone that title, the culture of the person does it.
