young people are trying to FIRE - Boomers are happily enjoying their exec roles and blocking people from moving up.
You said execs. Execs wield power. Which goes to what I said, that only people who wield power over others don’t want to retire. Mostly everyone else is trying to retire as soon as they can.

Right but you’re a specific sort of person. Whenever I’m speaking on politics or any topic, I’m thinking about the “casual” or average person. Most people engage in politics half-heartedly, and seasonally. I wish people were like you and what you described. But that would take a societal overhaul. It’s much easier to reform campaign finance and get a consensus on that then in how Americans engage with civics.
your post explains perfectly why i blame the voters. if you want the easy way out and don't take it seriously you'll vote for the name that looks familiar and keep it moving. and then later blame someone else for why that name is familiar to you in the first place (oh your evil money gave you name recognition and that's all that matters to me) and you didn't know anything about the other candidates because while john q voter has time for social media bullshyt and other bullshyt on tv, they can't spend 10 mins looking up candidates with the computer in their pockets.

i guess it's just easier to blame someone else.

i added a link, and i used to word exec as a catch all - boomers are in exec and management roles, they are blocking the ascent of other generations. anyway, the stats point to them happily retiring later, they're in the way

like someone else here stated, two things can be true. the reality is tho, if you don't have the money, how do you get people to even know your name before the ballot day? you can't do as many big events, can't buy anywhere near as many ads or media spots, you're not being booked for as many interviews. if people aren't even aware of you, how do they research you? sure, in a perfect world everyone would be 100% engaged and know in 2018 there will be a senate race and set their google alerts so they know everyone who enters the race and then follow up by researching all of them at night when they get home from work and put the kids down or finish their school assignments...but in the real worl, you have to amplify your name first, for people to even fathom paying attention, and that's not an easy task when being outspent 8:1

She can’t raise money so she gotta go.

:yeshrug:

Padilla, while a smarmy creep, is raising a lot of money for a sleepwalk to re-election.

DiFi’s daughter is a superior court judge in the Bay Area - I wonder who she pissed off to get the guns pointed at her momma like this. Feinstein is not the only senile politician in Washington.

Barbara Boxer knew when to step aside and let new blood come in when she retired in 2016. That allowed Kamala be to elected Senator and then obviously become VP.

Boxer is 7 years younger than DF. Dinosaur Fossilstein is just a stubborn old relic.

If her mental state is declining like the article implies, it's selfish of her to try remaining a senator. Not like California is at risk anytime soon of sending a Republican to the Senate.

I hate to make this class based, but a large chunk of Americans do not have the time to do the research because of their economic class status (lower middle class to poor).

Which would make sense since the constitution stipulated for a long time that only wealthy white men could vote.

And then you have a large chunk of Americans who can’t read past a 6th grade level, so they can goto a campaign website and read flowery bullshyt that sounds decent but isn’t saying anything—the neoliberal political guide that Democrats and Republicans both have adopted—and thus we either get apathy or “vote or die!” Where a large chunk of this nation don’t know what they are voting.

So yes, it is hard for John Q. Voter because this nation intentionally makes it hard for John Q. Voter to know what they are voting for or why they should vote.

Bruh what kind of bubble do you live in? The overwhelming majority of people are trying to retire early.
Most people aren’t capable of retiring from that generation. We are obviously talking about white collar professionals. You’re talking about things irrelevant to the conversation and basically acknowledged the type of people @dora_da_destroyer and I are talking about.

nah, thats just not accurate anymore

the democrats and republicans are basically cartels/monopolies that control their sides of the aisle. it takes a pretty massive amount of money and influence to run for these national seats, and they're constantly throwing huge amounts of resources behind the incumbent

let me know when everyone in the primary has equal resources, then it will be the voters' fault

Yes, that's true, but letting voters completely off the hook is a cop out. They are far more to blame than the established political and moneyed interests.

People being ignorant of what the fukk they're doing and who they're voting for is not a valid excuse.

Why not just shrug our shoulders at red state voters if that's the case?

Nah you either live in a bubble or your definition of “white collar professional” as inaccurately far too broad.

First you just said “professional” now it’s “white collar professional,” but either way you’re wrong. The majority of “white collar professionals” retire early as possible.
