Colibrehs you've been made NBA commissioner with the task of fixing the NBA. You are guaranteed a 4 year contract to do so. What would you change?

What changes would you make?
I would hire Thanos to snap his fingers and kill off half of American NBA fans.

Because at least half of you are miserable as fukk and will hate the product no matter what.

That alone will improve the overall vibe on social media platforms and sports bars.

This is an article from August 9, 2003.

Excerpt:

Thanks be to the football gods that the NFL does not become the NBA! There is a reason why the National Football League is America's No. 1 sport by every measure -- attendance, ratings, merchandising -- as the once-hot NBA continues its downward slip-slide in popularity. The reason is the decline of NBA play, which every season seems to become more simplified, less coordinated and more immature. Every year the NBA becomes less mature by about one tree-ring. During the Magic-Bird-MJ Golden Age, it was a sport of mental 30-year-olds, then 29-year-olds, then 28-year-olds and so on. Currently the NBA is a sport of mental 19-year-olds.

If the NFL turned into the NBA, there would be no plays on offense; 11 guys would just run around doing whatever they felt like, calling for the ball. Each person who actually got the ball would immediately throw a 60-yard pass, then turn to the officials to scream for a foul. Players would refuse to speak to each other, and cover their ears when coaches spoke. Players would put tattoos on their helmets. Fans would start leaving while the game was still on the line, as the home fans did Sunday night in the Meadowlands. With a minute remaining and the Nets down three, there were already hundreds of empty seats throughout Continental Airlines Arena, while those moving up the aisles to exit blocked the view of those staying for the quaint reason of finding out who wins. Home fans streaming out in the final minute of a close championship game. Ye gods. You've got to have a pretty troubled sport to achieve that. Welcome to the NBA.

But don't take my word for it, take the people's plebiscite. NBA attendance is down, while NFL attendance sets a new record almost annually. NBA ratings have fallen almost 45 percent in the past decade, while NFL ratings remain tops in sports and have been rising mildly in recent years. For a decade the quality of the NBA product has been going downhill. The NBA's attitude is that fans are too stupid to notice. But fans know about the decline and are paying steadily less attention. Please, oh football gods, don't let this spread to the NFL!

You guys have always shytted on the NBA and look to the past with rose tinted glasses.

I would definitely be on some Circus chit.

The most important thing I would do is make players stay in college 2 years then enter the draft.

These nikkaz coming in at 19 and aren't as good as they think and flame out. It would help the pro game because now a player has been on tv playing college ball for 2 years. Now you have a familiar face coming into the NBA and you can market him. Players would get hard coaching on the college level before entering the league. They would learn how to play the game and mature a lil physically and mentally before entering the league.

It would make college better obviously cuz I can't name not one player in college basketball right now.

This is the first thing I thought besides one thing: players cannot enter the draft until age 23.

You: “23?? Why that late?”

Because it is a privilege to be in my league, gotDAMMIT. If you don’t go to school, find something to
do that will build character. Go play in another country or the Big3 if you want, fine. Hell, go get a real job.
See who stays in shape or keeps working on their game in the interim.
Also, I think this will help mitigate Tanking somewhat.

2. I love @KateFabersBoyFriend idea for WNBA spending and I would steal that.
But I would add this caveat: The NBA team does not have to annex a team in their city.
This way these cities who are salivating for a team might get a chance to at least watch
women’s pro ball. We will see who really wants to watch basketball :evil laugh:
Which leads me to this:

2b. League goes back to 26 teams!
The Offseason of the 1st year of my Reign Of Terror Regime Administration, we have a Reverse Playoffs Tournament called the NBA Purge.
Bottom 4 teams in each conference will play in a best-of-9 series. You win, you stay!
You lose, oh well - maybe you can focus on the WNBA team your city has.

3. In the last 2 minutes of the Second and Fourth Quarters, 10-point baskets will come down.
They will be 13-feet high, and 3 feet back from the official hoop. If the basket scores from the 10-point
hoop and the official hoop - you get the points from both, depending on where the shot was from.
But you cannot goal-tend or interfere with shot to obtain double scores; it must happen naturally.

Owners and players wouldn't agree to less games, it's just too much money at stake that no side would want to give up. And rightfully so.
I can see why the owners never wanted less game because it meant less gate revenue. Now the Tv money pays for everything and then some

the players want to paid for 82 games but not play 82 games. Smh

Fans don’t think NBA players play hard or take the game serious. Un guaranteeing contracts would help this. Ben Simmons should’ve been cut years ago

A lot of black people are in the NBA so I'll never be in favor of non guaranteed contracts (even tho I don't have or will have kids in the future I just want to see y'all seeds get paid). I'd rather people just be mad than to have them get less money when it's not even something the owners care about

The NBA product had been going downhill for a whole decade before 2003?

Must've been all those 3s in the 90s.

Move the season away from the NFL. Jameis Winston makes more headlines than the entire NBA.

Fix reffing and rewarding foul baiting.

Get some way to make these cats more competitive if possible and less buddy-buddy. Have more competitive bonuses.

Honestly though, there’s simply way too much to fix right now.

The hilarious thing about this headline is that every league is dipping in ratings except the NFL. And even they’re slightly down. The “every other league setting records” is a straight up bold face lie. Again, all it takes is like 15 minutes of google. Crazy how easy it is to spread disinformation to you morons. Low IQ low attention span chronically online retards that can only digest (typically fake) headlines.

I have no idea if the headline is real and wasn't referencing it. I was simply talking about his post about being the league commissioner.

It wasn’t directed to you specifically. I’ve seen this headline peddled a few times on this forum today. And again anyone who’s even slightly informed knows it’s just straight up false.

A big issue with the nba is players being overpaid without earning it, this is largely a NBA problem. This is a function of the awful CBA. Why are players that havent Produced or don’t bring eyes to the sport getting 9 figure contracts

You have to earn your big 2nd contract in other sports.

The primary issue with nba is that fans feel like the players don’t care and the games don’t matter

They’re getting 9 figure contracts because

A) Players get 50% of all revenue and the NBA is making more money than ever. In other words, the league can afford it

B) There’s only 15 roster spots per team unlike football where you’re paying 53+ players per team so there’s more money to go around

C) Unlike baseball there’s a minimum amount that each team has to spend so you don’t have teams like the A’s or Pirates who punt seasons every year simply because they don’t want to spend money to bring in or retain good players

D) Max contracts have allowed some middle class to get bigger deals but let’s keep in mind that the max system is something owners created and pushed for bc they were scared of how much they would have to pay the Shaq’s & Duncan’s of the world

Bringing hand checks byke, no more techs for gestures and yapping, no more ejections for scuffles, worst penalty for outright fighting would be a $75 fine.
Hand checking is a crutch no need to bring that back. All hand checking does is handicap the more athletic player. Use footwork and angles
