Just seen the film a second time, this time in IMAX. I still think this movie is certified A. I've been watching Sundance films live in Utah for the last few years and this feels exactly like something that would be featured at the festival. Although this one debuted at SXSW.

I feel this movie bait and switched. It was presented as a movie that would focus on the Civil War, which is an amazing concept but they went a bit deeper into the individual journey and emotion and psyche of those who endure war, its more of a psychological and visual rollercoaster of war than a tale of the Civil War itself. So the Civil War concept really got put on the backburner to tell another story. To me this movie is very dark and twisted with just the right dash of dark humor.

So while I think they missed the mark to tell the story of Civil War better.. To me, their cinematography, effective use of the element of surprise, intensity, capture of the coldness of war, and storytelling on the cerebral experience of those involved in covering the Civil War made up for it.

Lee was so cold and rough and rightfully so. The film showed how war can do that to someone to survive and the moment she showed some warmth, bam, she's gone, just like Sammie.

For me, the real magic is watching it through the lens of those journalists, feeling their mental strain. The movie masterfully uses silence and wide shots to paint the horrors of war.

There was one scene after they narrowly escaped a sniper’s bullet. The silence between Jessie and Joel was crazy they were petrified silent crying/yelling in fear looking at each other. And then the next scene transitions to Jessie puking on herself. The whole experience was silence, no words but was visually powerful.
Certified A? Wow what movies do you watch lmao

Edit: I see you mention film festivals so makes sense.

When they made it inside the White House I almost walked out. I’m not even political it’s not about that just the movie and story was dumb and felt like I wasted my time.

Movie ain’t what I thought. Def approach it with skepticism. I get what some of yall are saying but nah. Don’t advertise what you advertise and then pull this. Plus I didn’t even understand what happened at the end. Which forces were those and why they did what they did.

Movie was A1 until the final arc when they made it to Washington. They wouldve aired the entire country out before they let Washington get overran by rebels :pachaha: It would've made more sense for insiders in the President's circle to be secretly working with the WF and have him die that way.
