I'm seeing more comparisons to Clozout ala Wages of Fear than I am for Hitchcock.
Strong comparison. The movie is much closer to minimalist cinema and French New Wave, except Nolan takes such a blunt approach that the strengths of those genres are mostly lost here.

Dope interview here... he mentions both inspirations as well as a detailed explanation of his intents and purposes of this film.

Movie was dope, basically the docking scene from Interstellar... But for about an hour and a half.

Was almost more of an experience than a movie, this is the shyt IMAX was made for.

Wouldn't rank it high overall, but as a pure visceral survival movie it was ILL.

If you are looking for violent porn, this isn't that type of film. If you want a classic Hitchcockian unnerving tension and suspense... and pure fear of the unknown coming...this is the very film. This movie is very ANTI-Saving Private Ryan. Where Saving Private Ryan focuses mainly on the morals of humanity, this focuses on the actual event from 1st perspective and what these men had to endure just to survive.
Just what im looking for...About to see this tonight on IMAX:banderas:

Stop comparing this to Hitchcock. Hitchcock was the master of suspense who knew how to built it like no other. Nolan is the master of filming scenes with no tension but a lot of Really! Loud! Sound! Effects! to substitute and an overly present Hans Zimmer soundtrack that rarely gels with what actually happens on screen but is also Very! Very! Loud!
Too much damn music in this movie

Just watched it the 2nd time. I knew the stories were intertwined but I didn't know it was connected than originally thought. For instance
it turns out it was Tom Hardy that incidentally shot down the small boat that those young soldiers were hiding in.

Just got back from it...Planet of the Apes was sold out so I checked this out since I wanted to watch a movie

-Saw it on 70mm
-Visually it was stunning! It had great sound as well...it was a little too loud for me though.
-As people mentioned, the accents (especially the pilots) combined with the airplane sound was a little too thick so it was difficult to make out everything they were saying
- That suspense music almost ruined the movie for me. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to literally run it for 95% of the movie

I really don't see the hype from the movie. It was just ok

:ohhh:

You sure about that one?

It seemed like they were being shot at while still on the beach. Or was it Germans in the beginning and he was the last one to pop shots?

This would explain why he chooses capture over ejecting his seat.

It's funny you talk about the pilots' thick accents because I just remembered that I am 100% certain that Michael Caine has a cameo in this movie.

He does the voice of the group leader of the Spitfires, who is already taken down after the first enemy encounter. Nothing could hide that distinctive accent of his. :russ:

:patrice: I don't remember this even being insinuated and normally I am quick to pick these things up. You really sure about that, breh? Not saying I don't believe you or anything.:hubie:

Somewhere it would make a little sense since Tom Hardy's character is otherwise pretty much the flawless hero of the movie.
