77% of Chinese Residents are poor..... but hey, lets build a $500B bullet train.

They have lifted 800 million people from poverty in my lifetime. They have built more wealth in the shortest amount of time than any country in the history of the world.

I know that Chinese exceptionalism is killing you Muricans on the inside. :banderas:

Chinese have discipline, White Americans do not...
They also have authoritarian leadership that exploits near slave-like labor. That's not to say we couldn't build massive infrastructure projects in this country, because we absolutely could. It's just that we're stuck in a profit-driven system that prioritizes corporate interests over the needs of the public.

Why would anyone live in Cleveland on purpose? :gag:

Acela already has allowed people to work in NYC, and live in Philadelphia/Baltimore or swap out any major East Coast City from DC to Boston.

What people don't realize is that because of outside the NE corridor, electrified systems wouldn't be ideal because of how far some of these trains would have to travel across the midwest where there is legitimately nothing.
I honestly would be surprised if a legitimate rail system through that area doesn't trigger a housing boom in said area.

Hasn't that always been the case throughout human history?

It definitely lead to the west being settled rapidly in the 1800s.

Well, generally speaking, flyover state residents are the biggest opponents to high-speed rail.

Flyover state residents tend to be more culturally car dependent, opposed to public transit, individualistic in thinking, and politically conservative. Those are major barriers to HSR being built.
The crazy thing is that you can own a car and still use HSR:dead:. Hell, I own one even though I live in Japan.

Matter of fact, that'd be more beneficial to them because the cost of cars would plummet:mjlol:.

Registration might increase by way of a road tax, but that'd still be a light fee.

Hawaii been building its stupid rail for 13 years and it's still not done. They even reduced the length significantly. Plus it's waaaay over budget. 13 years is way too long

You keep omitting the geographical size of America. We are the 3rd largest country on earth, land mass size.

Even with high speed rail, at best, it would be for major cities in the flyover states only. If you live in a rural or suburban area out there, there is no such thing as an Uber to drive you anywhere. If you don't have a car for at least 42 out of the 50 states, you might as well be confined to a wheelchair.

This is flat out dumb:what:

I use Amtrak anytime I'm traveling on the east coast. These are 2-4 hour trips and not once have I had a bad ride. Even when I was commuting to college with 10 hour rides everything was smooth. People are quiet, there's no crying babies, no kids kicking the back of your chair, there's plenty of leg room, etc. Trains take scenic routes so you can just relax and look out the window.

There's no comparison to public transportation where people can get on trains for little money or hop the subway for free. Everyone on there is a paying customer going to a destination not a straggler.

If I'm going from NY to Philly, NJ, DC, or Boston it's usually people on business trips, college kids heading home/campus, or vacationers. If it's not the holidays I never even have anyone sitting next to me. On the rare occasion someone was next to me it wasn't even a big deal because there's plenty of space or they got off at a stop earlier than mine. They might be next to me for 20 minutes to an hour.

People are usually on a tablet watching something, reading a book, working on a laptop. No one bothers anyone. There's quiet cars and business class if you want to ensure a better trip but I've never had to go that route because everyone keeps to themselves and are respectful.

When do you ever see any wild Amtrak videos? We got people wilding at airports and on planes everyday.

I've never gone on a super long cross country trip but you can literally pay for your own space and be isolated on those type of trains.

That poster has never ridden the train, whether Amtrak or City Transit. It's obvious.

As someone who has also ridden Amtrak A LOT over the years (I live in NYC), I swear by it for trips to Boston/DC. I will not fly to either cities. I even took it to Atlanta once in college when a snowstorm cancelled tons of flights at the airport.

They ain't never took the Acela through rural Connecticut along the shoreline and shared a glass of wine with the sweet 70-year old woman visiting her family for Thanksgiving. :wow:

As someone who rides the subway multiple times per week, the comparison of the Amtrak experience to that of the NYC Subway is beyond my comprehension. That's like saying the airplane kiddie ride at their local cornfield carnival is the same as flying first class on Emirates. :hhh:

The Truth
I never understand why leftists are utterly obsessed with trains and railroads.

Cost effectiveness, time and unimpeded space make air travel the superior mode of travel. This shyt was figured out by the middle of the 20th century.

Let China build trains to nowhere.
I agree but there isn’t a logical reason why we don’t have a train that can go from point A to B within a decent timeframe.

I was actually talking about it with family. I hate flying

The public doesn't want it. Only a small portion of people do. Plus Amtrak doesn't even make money. Its subsidized by the government. American's don't want to ride trains. Its really that simple.
