The entire concept of flyover states and underivable cities would be erased with high speed train. because the entire country would become smaller and more interconnected. so in a sense. this comment supports the concept.
Well, generally speaking, flyover state residents are the biggest opponents to high-speed rail.

Flyover state residents tend to be more culturally car dependent, opposed to public transit, individualistic in thinking, and politically conservative. Those are major barriers to HSR being built.

fukk all that, I’m not trying to sit next to dudes jacking off on some cross-country rail line.

shyt will just magnify all off the grossness of US local public transportation.

This shyt works in more civilized countries…not here.

This is flat out dumb:what:

I use Amtrak anytime I'm traveling on the east coast. These are 2-4 hour trips and not once have I had a bad ride. Even when I was commuting to college with 10 hour rides everything was smooth. People are quiet, there's no crying babies, no kids kicking the back of your chair, there's plenty of leg room, etc. Trains take scenic routes so you can just relax and look out the window.

There's no comparison to public transportation where people can get on trains for little money or hop the subway for free. Everyone on there is a paying customer going to a destination not a straggler.

If I'm going from NY to Philly, NJ, DC, or Boston it's usually people on business trips, college kids heading home/campus, or vacationers. If it's not the holidays I never even have anyone sitting next to me. On the rare occasion someone was next to me it wasn't even a big deal because there's plenty of space or they got off at a stop earlier than mine. They might be next to me for 20 minutes to an hour.

People are usually on a tablet watching something, reading a book, working on a laptop. No one bothers anyone. There's quiet cars and business class if you want to ensure a better trip but I've never had to go that route because everyone keeps to themselves and are respectful.

When do you ever see any wild Amtrak videos? We got people wilding at airports and on planes everyday.

I've never gone on a super long cross country trip but you can literally pay for your own space and be isolated on those type of trains.

The main reason i want it isn't to replace flying. If i'm traveling somewhere for a vacation a plane will always be the most efficient method of transport.
But i feel like high speed trains would ideally enable longer and faster work commutes. Traveling at 300 mph mean you could live in Cleveland and work in NYC everyday. Only an 1 hour and a half commute. I've had drives take that much time to go only 30 miles simply because of traffic was so congested.
this is my number one reason for high speed rail. Work would change dramatically and we wouldn’t have many economically dead spots.

looks like there's an inability to admit that this ship has sailed :dead:

it will take hundreds of billions of dollars to implement this, take a decade+ to get it built with all the union extortion, and then take hundreds of billions to maintain and keep prices down going forward. you're never gonna convince the majority of people that we shouldn't just take that money, and improve flying

The reality is, people outside of whatever specific field don't believe anything can be done until it is actually done. If us non-believers were in charge, nothing would ever be completed. A lot of projects get completed because individuals and organizations push forward and convince the masses that they need to hold people in power to task.

We're an exceptional country that is on top of the world except for when the world has accomplished something we haven't. Then it's excuses heaped on excuses why it isn't feasible. The country that talks about American dreams and constant innovation in multiple spheres. :camby:

We can't do universal Healthcare. We can't have affordable housing for everyone. We can't have reliable public transportation through the country. We can't fix the infrastructure. We can't hold corporations accountable for destroying the envrionment. We can't afford to give black Americans reparations.

yeah, because you can fly it in an hour and a half :dead:

let us know when democrat politicians and their union thugs are willing to work and budget like the chinese, and we can talk about building high speed trains :mjlol: california is at what, 10x the cost overrun when they run their projections? why doesn't california show us the way, and build one?

DUDE THE AIRPORTS ARE
IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE
PLUS YOU GOTTA SIT IN THE AIRPORT
FOR 1-2 HOURS BEFORE YOU DEPART.

ONCE YOU LAND YOURE WAITING ANOTHER
40 MINUTES FOR YOUR LUGGAGE
THEN ONCE AGAIN
TRAVELING FROM THE MIDDLE
OF NO WHERE BACK INTO THE CITY.

A 50 MIN FLIGHT TO DETROIT TAKES
OVER 4 HOURS TO GET FROM
MY CRIB TO MY BROTHERS CRIB.

I’m all for remote work, but this additionally improves collaboration for jobs that can’t be done remotely.

A lot of smart people live in different cities hours away. Having a high speed rail let’s them work together in-person easier because it removes the distance factor.

It’d be great for researchers from Caltech and Stanford or M.I.T and Princeton to commute back-and-forth with each other every other week while basically barely giving up any additional time. Rather than meeting up for a month or two here and there, it can be year-round collaboration.

I already know the Chinese are utilizing it in those reasons right now to make researchers collaborate easier.
