Lobbyists in Detroit are killing trains. GM killed cable cars and light rail in the 1930s by convincing people they need an automobile. The US interstate system was them born.

Musk has no incentive to build mass transit when he owns Tesla. His high-speed rail talk is just a flex.

along with the USA, japan, china ... :patrice: maybe ... :hubie:
My point is they were able to imagine and create an interconnected rail system even after centuries of war.

Meanwhile Americans accept whatever their corporate masters tell us what is and isn’t possible.

you need to spell it out for me.

high speed from spain to romania is less then the distance from dc to NYC.

why no high speed between those two cities.

now generalise my statement
Who owns the land? How much will it cost? What's the return value?

The public doesn't want it. Only a small portion of people do. Plus Amtrak doesn't even make money. Its subsidized by the government. American's don't want to ride trains. Its really that simple.
This isn't true. When there's actual reliable and frequent service available, there's a lot of demand. People don't ride trains if there are no trains to ride. When the infrastructure is built people flock to it because people want more options than just wasting hours going through TSA security or paying high gas prices to sit in traffic. It doesn't need to be coast to coast, but there are so many regions where it makes sense and not just the NE corridor.

More people are riding Amtrak than ever before, and improvements are on the way

Added frequencies create exponential ridership gains

Hands-on management and a reliable funding commitment at the state level have allowed Virginia, North Carolina, and Maine to actively promote their service and add round trips. Price reductions coupled with more Virginia-sponsored frequencies to Norfolk and Roanoke have resulted in sustained growth, while additional Piedmonts between Raleigh and Charlotte, N.C., have made the service more relevant.

You keep omitting the geographical size of America. We are the 3rd largest country on earth, land mass size.

Even with high speed rail, at best, it would be for major cities in the flyover states only. If you live in a rural or suburban area out there, there is no such thing as an Uber to drive you anywhere. If you don't have a car for at least 42 out of the 50 states, you might as well be confined to a wheelchair.
Huh? That wasn't the discussion, nor did I say anything to the contrary.

Hawaii? :mjlol:

Open a small portion of a rail line that doesn't go where people want and be surprised at low ridership brehs

“The problem is it doesn’t go to the places that people want.”

Once the next segment opens Dos Santos-Tam said the situation will change.

“The second phase goes to middle street and is going to open next year and is going to that’s going to be really transformational,” he said.

The second segment of the rail will end at the Middle Street Transit Center. According to HART, construction of the track and guideway is just about done and construction on the four stations in this segment is also expected to be finished within the next couple of months.

It’s projected opening: Spring 2025.

So how much would the land cost you to build high speed rail from NYC to DC?
Building near the already existing Amtrak rails from NY to DC is probably much less costly than trying to buy new parcels of land. Work a deal with Amtrak and you cut way down on costs. Political backing is much more of a barrier than land costs would be for that region

I never understand why leftists are utterly obsessed with trains and railroads.

Cost effectiveness, time and unimpeded space make air travel the superior mode of travel. This shyt was figured out by the middle of the 20th century.

Let China build trains to nowhere.
I think that's a real short sighted POV breh. It should be more about the convenience and cost effectiveness it provides to the people.

Sounds like we got some brehs bout to move to china

VS

1. Environmental Impact

  • Lower Carbon Emissions:
    • Trains produce significantly fewer greenhouse gas emissions per passenger-mile compared to airplanes, especially electric trains powered by renewable energy.
    • High-speed rail systems, for example, emit up to 90% less CO₂ than short-haul flights.
  • Energy Efficiency:
    • Trains are more energy-efficient, using less fuel per passenger or ton of freight compared to airplanes.

2. Accessibility and Convenience

  • Urban Connectivity:
    • LRT systems are integrated into city infrastructure, making them ideal for short-distance travel and commuting within metropolitan areas.
    • Train stations are often centrally located, unlike airports, which are usually on the outskirts of cities, requiring additional travel.
  • Simpler Boarding Process:
    • Trains generally have shorter check-in and boarding times compared to the lengthy security checks and procedures at airports.

3. Cost-Effectiveness

  • Affordable Fares:
    • Train and LRT tickets are often more affordable than plane tickets, especially for short- to medium-distance travel.
    • Reduced baggage fees and no hidden charges make trains more economical.
  • Infrastructure Costs:
    • Maintaining train tracks and stations is often less expensive than the upkeep of airports and aviation facilities.

4. Comfort and Flexibility

  • Spacious Seating and Amenities:
    • Trains typically offer more legroom, larger seats, and the ability to move around freely during the journey.
    • Many trains also have dining cars, restrooms, and scenic views.
  • No Weather Delays:
    • Trains are less likely to face delays due to weather conditions compared to airplanes, which can be grounded by storms or fog.

5. Safety

  • Lower Accident Risk:
    • Train travel has historically been safer than air travel, with fewer accidents and fatalities per passenger-mile.

6. Economic and Social Benefits

  • Regional Development:
    • Rail systems encourage economic growth by improving connectivity between cities and towns, fostering regional development.
    • LRT systems reduce urban congestion and promote more sustainable urban planning.
  • Job Creation:
    • Building and maintaining rail infrastructure creates jobs and stimulates local economies.

7. Better for Short- and Medium-Distance Travel

  • Time Efficiency:
    • For short- and medium-distance routes (e.g., under 500 miles), trains are often faster when considering total travel time (including airport check-in and security).
    • High-speed trains, like those in Europe or Japan, can rival the speed of airplanes over such distances.

All I’m hearing is excuses. This country use to fukking mobilize and do great feats when it was inspired to. America is an empty husk of a country. Its citizens are poorly educated, malnourished, misinformed, uninspired, over worked, violent, mentally unstable, greedy, apathetic. You name it.

Delusion and denial vs reality is beautiful to observe :wow:
