zero.

use tunnels.

build alongside / under existing rails.

ridiculous excuses.

understandable given that the US is not quite up to global standards.
That's 370 kilometers. The longest tunnel is 57 km. Is the ground even suitable for tunnels? If ( HUGE) if you can do it it would take over 120 years to tunnel that far based off what it took to do the Gotthard tunnel. Cost? At least 72 billion again based off the Gotthard tunnel, most likely significantly more. No one is waiting 120 years. Can't build a long side for 2 reasons. Not enough space and HSR has much wider turns due to speeds. It's easy to through out solutions when you have no idea of the engineering problems. Now account for inflation, unions, corruption, and labor costs skyrocket.

:mjlol:

you are a bit slower than the people in charge (one hopes) and I don't the patience or energy to spoon feed you.

HINT: tracks (and motorways for that matter) are developed SECTIONS AT A TIME. concurrently even.

trains can run in both directions on the same track.

i'm done here. don't at me.

High speed rail cannot run on the same tracks. They require different tracks. That's real rich calling someone a dunce when you are wrong in so many ways. 20 years for a 57km tunnel. So a 35 miles section 20 years. It's a train to no where.

Hawaii been building its stupid rail for 13 years and it's still not done. They even reduced the length significantly. Plus it's waaaay over budget. 13 years is way too long

Even if you exclude the historical remains they found, wrong train/track size, covid etc.... The true reasons why it ran way over budget and took so long is because everything regarding Hawaii and public works is ran by lazy incompetent people who will use every excuse to not do work and still get paid.... Not only that, they're just ok with not maintaining shyt.

It's the same reason that New Aloha Stadium won't get built anytime soon.

The state should not even be allowed to handle projects like this because it's shown time after time it simply does not possess the aptitude to complete tasks above the city level.

Building near the already existing Amtrak rails from NY to DC is probably much less costly than trying to buy new parcels of land. Work a deal with Amtrak and you cut way down on costs. Political backing is much more of a barrier than land costs would be for that region

With HSR along the NE corridor, it's going to have to effectively run right along/on top the same ACELA route otherwise, it's not going to be of any value to riders.

Otherwise you'd end up having to either create/expand the current stops to accommodate the new rail network... plus convince riders that it's a better option than what they know currently works and have built travel plans around.

trying to juggle NIMBYism in 5 different states on top of that :heh:

how can we possibly focus on this
I love how you failed to make a solid point here

China doesnt allow neither of that bull shyt, and thats why they can achieve shyt like this. While our president says stupid shyt like Trans Rights are the civil rights fight of our life right now..

China dont allow for that non sense and they thrive, we entertain this non sense and we are falling behind

Glad you got your daps though :salute:

Glad that you love authoritarian measures and human rights abuse :unimpressed:

You one of them "the ends justify the means" type of people. Control freaks.

10,000 km:

Length of high-speed rail in China when Xi Jinping became the President (in 2013)

42,000+ km — Today

And it was 0 km in 2007!

A decade in China is like a century in other countries.

Those who don’t understand the “Speed of China,” are doomed to failure.

Imagine the size and scope of this transformation, its mind blowing.

A country using its wealth to do something constructive.

Infrastructures build civilizations and create jobs.
This is THE most important metric to establish healthy/progressive societies...

Was watching a doc on Chongqing and dude bought up a point that rarely gets mentioned
The reason why China can complete these massive infrastructure programs while the U.S is stuck in the 20th century is basically China can do whatever they want with their land
Imagine the U.S trying to create an east coast to west coast high speed rail, how many trash ass republican politicians in the mid west would try to block it, how many private land owners would try to play hardball with the government, etc
They were going add a stop to a local rail line in my area and the estimated cost was like $200 million or something crazy for like 5 miles of track. I don't think they ever started yet because local suburban NIMBY are taking them to court so they don't get a train going through their neighborhood. I think something similar happened when the Atl Braves tried to get a rail line extended so fans could catch trains to the games.
It's really not fair to compare the two countries
