why fix something that isnt broken?

From working with artists myself, I can tell you that it ain't Lex Luger who wants to make the same beat all the time. It's the rap artists that WANT the same beat every time.

He probably sends out 100's of beats to artist and they all pick a beats that are associated with "his" sound. Or, the artists pressure him to make a certain "sound".

That's just how it is.

You obviously know more about artists than I do, but in this case why wouldn't a guy like Lex Luger do an instrumental album? I guess it wouldn't be that much of a financial risk? TBH this is a question I've been asking myself for the longest, especially for Rza, I never understood why he never came out with a full instrumental album. I mean he does scores and had that other Ghost Dog album but I would've expected more...I understand hip-hop is also about lyrcis, but I can't be the only who is :aicmon: at some of the lyrics ruining great beats. I wouldn't be an El-P fan if it were just for his rapping tbh...

meh, this is the same as all those "I'm drifting away from hip-hop" threads in The Spot/Booth

drift away then muthafukka :rudy:

Was wondering if anyone would mention that thread I made :pachaha:

Actually since that thread I've been listening to more hip-hop, trying to see what I might have been missing...nothing great, but some good stuff nonetheless

the dumb are mostly intrigued by the drum :lolbron:

Guilty as charged :dj2:

I feel the same way. These guys download every single album and wonder why labels won't cater to them. The quality of music is lower now because only ignorant music is selling.

it just always seems to come from arrogance, like hip-hop is "below them" now, or they're "too good" to listen to hip-hop. and then what that insinuates about those that do listen to hip-hop

you're free to listen to whatever you want. no one's obligated to listen to hip-hop. and I don't need a long-winded rationalization of why you choose to not listen to hip-hop. I can only assume that people feel the need to explain themselves, because somehow they think they've done something wrong, and need to come up with an excuse. and that excuse tends to be patronizing to those that still like the music

Lol...of course Mowglee is some lame ass backpacker. It makes perfect sense when you consider his kayfabe internet persona where he pretends to live some "lifestyle" that involves pulling dimes, having a life outside of message board trolling, rolling around the floor with men, and playing video games, not looking like he's 45 years old, and being heterosexual.

Well a lot people in this thread came to the same conclusion in this thread, some people should just move on. I still have a gripe with those same elitist, because they are part of the problem that good music isn't selling anymore.

We can add Kendrick Lamar to this list after releasing this angelic album

:lawd: O wow, friends, the production value alone does something to my atomic structure that has elevated my principles not to mention the obscenly potent and honest lyrics from this talent. Theists, make the best albums.

This young man gives me hope for hip hop. This what we were talking about on the cast last night. The song is very much "Street" oriented, but still has social commentary and a positive message. Great beat, great lyrics, amazing flow.

I wonder why it is that if someone discusses their feeling about hip-hop and how the way current hip-hop isn't really that great, they're labeled "elitist"? Because according to this I would fall into that category, yet I've been listening to "ignorant" shyt my whole life as well as some "elitist" hip-hop/music (whatever that is)...In your opinion, are dudes like SchoolBoy Q, Asap or AB-Soul for "elitists"? Reks, Flatbush Zombies, Gibbs?

I'm not sure why you're trying to back me into some "ignorant vs elitist hip-hop" argument. that wasn't what I was talking about

No, my question is why is it that when someone (like myself) discusses how current HH isn't really all that he/she is labelled an "elitist"? My point is that one can listen to ANY kind of hip-hop (like I do) and still feel that today's overall music isn't at a high level. I fail to understand how that would be an "elitist" point of view or acting as if I'm "too good" for hip-hop.

my point was about those that try to dismiss hip-hop all together

there's a difference between a "hip-hop elitist" and just a plain "elitist" (but it is a derogatory term either way). a "hip-hop elitist" isn't talking about how they "outgrew hip-hop"
