30 years, thats pretty fukking crazy.I'm a die hard Ras Kass fan, Soul on Ice is my favorite cd of all time, so you can't go by my tastes in music.
I think as long as a rapper talks about what's relevant to them like Melle Mel did 20 years ago or has fun with the music like De La Soul did 15 years ago, hip-hop will always live. Mainstream music has always been garbage, so we can't use that as a measure of quality. We are 30+ years deep, what you see is what you get, the good and the bad.
Dudes talk about who's winning and who has the most L's, this is stuff fans never cared about 10 years ago. So, I understand why rappers and labels have no problem insulting the fan's intelligence, that's the reason Jay-Z dumbed down his lyrics to double his dollars.
You're right though, its inevitable. Its so evolved, so universal, so widespread, its got a life of its own whether I agree or not
