True. But this isnt the first time the Yanks have collectively looked like they've never played the sport before. Cano's AB's werent even competitive.

I dont know what it is. The same stuff happened under Torre. These bats just go cold all at once come October. It really is unexplainable....but at the same time there is definitely some truth to them being a home run or nothing type of team.

I realize the stat guys laugh at people saying we hit too many home runs....but how else can you explain it? There's a reason why I had more confidence in Ichiro than anyone else....at least you knew he'd make contact and give himself a chance.

shyt just happens. Delmon Young was the MVP of the series and he is a replacement level player.

Sometimes over a 4 game stretch the power won't play at all and you just won't score any runs. But it is also equally true that over that same 4 game stretch a team of singles hitters might not string together enough hits to score any runs.

I don't blame Cashman. He came into a can't win situation. That championship core was home grown. He came into a compete for titles every year environment. Now hes been put in a situation where he wiffs on the regular. Look at post season floppers Swisher and Granderson for example. Them two nikkas are responsible for our 2 best positional prospects for not being here. They didn't give Jackson a chance to develop because they wanted the win now player in Granderson. They trade away Montero and don't even try to sign Cespedes because they had a win now player in Swisher.

Instead of sign Cabrera and his offensive production.. they settle for Texeria and is consistent .250 batting. Then they don't bid for Chapman. So they don't want to take a chance on 2 stud cuban prospects because they made dumb moves in the past.

montero has been ass and is moving off catcher permanently soon :obama:

Delmon Young kills the Yankees. We dont have anyone that kills other teams. Its frustrating.

In this Detroit series I'd rather have 9 Ichiro's than 9 Granderson's....too many all of nothing guys prone to K's.

WHen your break baseball down into *gasp* small sample sizes...you need guys that will make contact. Swisher, Grandy, Tex, Arod...big ass swings against good pitching and they strike out. shyt doesnt work. Is a 7 game series fair? Probably not....but it isnt total luck...especially when the entire team looks totally foolish and can barley make contact against Anibal Sanchez,

This is the sweetest part of seeing the Yankees get swept. They need to stop trying to buy championships and actually field a baseball team.

yeah because Detroit didn't just give Prince Field a 10 year and ~200mil deal that's going to be MUCH worse and way more obsolete in 3 years with the rest of the 7 left than A-Rod's deal is right now after 5 years with another 5 to go.

SMFH at the irrational Yankees hate. "Trying to buy championships"...if you have money, you pay to for a top level position player...like CC Sabathia, or Tex who is a multiple-time gold glove first baseman.

And nikkas act like Yankees made the WORST decision ever extending A-Rod another 10 years...y'all fail to realize if A-Rod was your team's third baseman you wouldn't let him just walk...St. Louis got lucky by letting Pujols walk...but at the same time their offer was still like 8-9 years just not enough money.

w.e. thuogh "fukk the Yankees...best part ever is they try to buy championships but somehow always fail"...nikka 5 rings in the last 15 years...no other team in the time span has more than 2 each. :stfu: bytch ass haters

yeah i'm :umad:...but we also :win:

Man Walt was doing work in this thread, but it is impossible to argue with people who don't understand the basic concepts of probability.

fukk off with that. Nobody expects the Yankees to win every year.. we are talking 1 in 12.

For a team that is favored to win year in and year out.. not a great average, bub. There's the excuse of "craphshoot" and then there is downright underachieving and the Yanks fit the latter.

Take your L.

Again why include just 12 years?

Cashman has been the GM for Yankees since 98 and been with them since 1986

They've also won the most number of pennants in 12 years. A quarter of the the last 12 World Series have featured the Yankees. What is your point exactly. You dumb nikka.

Again why include just 12 years?

Because post-2000 is when they went crazy with the payroll.

In 1998 their opening day payroll was $4M below Baltimore at around $65M. Half the league was at $50M or higher.

In '99 payrolls across baseball took a giant leap. The Yanks had the highest payroll at $88M on opening day but Texas was still over $80M and a bunch of teams were over $70M. 2000 was comparable.

In 2001 another big leap in payroll occurred across baseball but half the league was still within $30M of the Yankees and there was actually two teams right at $109M.

2002 the Yanks were up to $125M.
2003 - $152M, next highest at $117M, only a handful of teams over $100M
2004 - $182M, next highest at $125M, still 4 teams total over $100M
2005 - $205M, next highest at $121M, only 3 teams total over $100M
2006 - $194M, five teams around $100M

In recent years the gap has started to close so we'll see how it plays out and if the Yanks are serious about limiting their payroll..

But here's the point.. the Yanks have won a single World Series in this time frame where they have overspent to ridiculous levels. The spending has not matched their actual production.

I'm not saying they have to win it every year. I'm not saying they have to win it every other year.. but one out of 12 with that payroll? Nah, that is an underachievement. Crapshoot or not. You can run into a hot team or a hot pitcher. That can happen. But look at this year.. They weren't hitting and it wasn't against just higher quality of pitching. They were being shutdown by threes and fours.

Playoffs are a total crapshoot its mostly luck and whos hot at the time..95 wins and winning a round in baseball isnt terrible with an aging team..this isnt the nba where nothing matters for the big teams till the conference finals
