From my perspective: It's just a branch of White American culture with a darker history (no pun intended). Black American have been through a lot and resent their white counterparts (rightfully so) because of their lack of recognition as one of the most significant contributors to what this country has become in terms of a financial and military super power.

But from an outsiders point of view, you take away that struggle and the racist aspect of American society, both black and white americans typically have the same mindset in general. Your music and your foods, your customs are more closely related to that of the British than it does any African.

Dont get me wrong, Caribbean blacks have the same issue due to our European slave masters. But listen to black Cuban folk music. Listen to Haitian folk music. Even Black Dominican folk music. The shyt SCREAMS AFRICAN, loud. I dont get that from American music. I see an extention of white American culture which in itself is an extension of British culture but with an African variant

Dont take this the wrong way, by the way. Just stating a point of view.

That is not what i mean at all. Please see my statement above for the rest of my explanation
That's because its a mix of cultures in the u.s.a and its been like to that from day one. The U.S.A.mind state is not the same as British, its a unique one based on the fact that this nation is very competitive, rich, and has a history of in house fighting. Again giving Europe the sole credit is wrong.

The island people are basically by themselves so there would be very little change but that doesn't negate the African presence in the U.S.A. If anything its a new form of African. One that is emulated ALL OVER THE WORLD. And it is known black Americans played a major part in its development. More credit should be given but it's there nonetheless. To just say it's a European thing is not giving credit where it's due and to me is a form of hating. You may not be doing it intentionally but it's still being done, when if you look at the history of this country blacks played a major part in its development and some of those things had an African connection.

As far as music and african connection look at the drum, look at the call and response, look at the harmonies, look at the syncopation and timing. I could go on and on but you don't see it because you have misread whites doing our music as it being theirs when it's the other way around or it is a mix of both.

People keep mentioning Hip Hop/Rap as it's the only form of Black Americans music culture.(A mix of Caribbean, Funk and Disco music):heh:

Naw breh, unlike other cultures. Black Americans has impressively evolved their music in a 100 years span.

-It started with Jazz

-From Jazz it evolved into Blues.

-From Blues it evolved into R&B

-From R&B it evolved into Rock n Roll and Soul

-Rock n Roll and Soul evolved into Funk/ Disco/Pop

-Funk/Disco/Pop evolved into today's music

All of these music genres was started by Black Americans.

All of these music genres still have Jazz influence to this day.

No other group of people music has evolved like the Black Americans.

Dont forget the real beginnings of the way American music is done as far as lyrics, being gospel. The sadness, the love, and the harmonies come from slaves singing I the fields and have a connection to Africa. Listening to "water no get enemy" and the chorus, then listen to gospel music, you can clearly see the connection.

So, Jazz was influence by Britain music? :mjlol:

Breh don't you know that Dominican music is heavly Jazz influenced. Alone with other Latin and Caribbean music.

But who invented Jazz?
Exactly. Black American music was created from poor black people in the south. Nothing more nothing less LOL at all this European traditions/African traditions stuff. Our culture as a whole comes from making something out of nothing and the same has happened with our music. Literally, its just the expression of black americans at the time and what we were going through

And a lot of foreigners seem to have a hard time understanding that black americans were participants in the creation of new western/American culture. We weren't just bystanders, nikka been influencing this country even during slavery.

And another thing. One can make the case that black American music has inspired the diaspora moreso than the other way around. Shows you just how African it is:yeshrug:

Blues came before jazz. Jazz evolved from the blues. But yeah I agree black American music changed the game
