Superstar
I JUST saw this this afternoon and I was disappointed. I thought this character was too overpowered to the point where nothing seemed like a challenge. maybe I'm missing out on her history, but I thought this was one of the weaker marvel films to be honest.
Carol spends nearly 75% of the film letting people control her. She obeys Jude Law's character without question. She pleads with the Supreme Intelligence to let her prove herself and agrees with that they gave her power and she blindly accepts that they can take it away if she doesn't do well. She even believes that the Skulls messed with her head and implanted memories. This movie isn't about her fighting an external enemy, it's about her discovering her own agency and that her power is hers not someone else's. I don't understand the argument that there was no character development or that she was over-powered when it takes her the entire movie to realize how powerful she truly is. It just feels like a complaint from someone who is uncomfortable with seeing a woman having that kind of power and owning it. You probably were really digging it when Jude Law's character was throwing her around and punching her in the face, huh?
