Can we ban the words "bad writing", "plot armor", "rushed" and "fan service" from The Film Room?

never heard of the term plot armor before but bad writing and fan service is a real thing. as long as posters can back up their criticism with more than just "bad writing" or "fan service" than i don't see a problem with it. i have more of a problem with lazy posters just throwing a show or movie under the bus with very little context. they don't include examples, scenes or anything. just lazy criticism.

exactly!
That is a problem on the internet in general, everybody is entitled to their opinion but nobody feels entitled to give well thought out opinions. People use terms like those to make them seem like they are credible, its the same as another over used term "clout chasing". people be like if I use this popular term then others will think I actually know wtf im talking about and not just another random poster. and those be the people quick to get defensive when someone tells them their opinion is trash, those be the ones quick to tell you how this board is for giving opinions and if you dont like it log off.. when in reality I dont like how lazy and un original your opinion was givin.
:rudy:

Get mad at the critics instead of what they're critiquing, brehettes.

End game wasn't perfect and the lates GOT ep damned sure wasn't either. We should all constantly demand better products.

another overused term, this term implies the creators intentionally put out a less than stellar product and they are actually holding back.. when infact most of the time its just you that didnt like the direction they chose. or you had your predictions ruined.
They're being overused by all of these posters who apparently missed their callings to be Hollywood TV and Film writers:mjlol:
agreed, I never heard the term plot armor before last week, now every other post is throwing it around.. sheep mentality

Right

If that is the case then every single movie and TV show has plot armor

every single movie is fan service, has plot armour, and has bad writing because all of that shyt is subjective

people have all damn day to nitpick and critique every damn thing but no time to write a well thought of impression or review. some of the shyt people have been nitpicking about GOT or the avengers just this weekend is insane

I know they are real words with real meaning. I’m just talking about the increase of people using them now.
You're seeing an increase in usage of the term in alignment with the increased usage of (SLOPPY) Deus ex machina in the show

Are you saying that we shouldn't criticize accordingly because you're tired of seeing terms you could easily ignore?

Are we not allowed to criticize accordingly? On a discussion board? I'm not seeing the issue

I’m saying that we are both reading the same thing.

Just like I saw deus ex machina 14 times, so did you.

You don’t have to be the 15th person to say deus ex machina.

We get it. You know what it means.

I don't know if certain movies are intentionally less than stellar, but it doesn't matter. I don't accept paying nearly 20 bucks and wasting 3 hours watching mediocrity- especially iconic franchises- just because creators "tried".

In the rules of that universe, yes it makes no sense.

You can be a fan of something and critique it. The producers literally said “We wanted to give her a good sendoff for the fans.”
i wasn't speaking to it being fan service, it was, i'm arguing against her death not making sense. we've seen over the top/heroic deaths in that series time and time again, it is what it is. her being in 7 episodes vs 1? now yes, that's fan service

you missed my point.. are you saying cause endgame wasnt perfect, you demand better? isnt that a little unrealistic to expect someone to make the movie YOU want to see? like they know what you want,

so now the writers are lazy or need to do better? how entitled are you? what I am saying is those words arent critisms, its an entitled viewpoint.

Why does this generation think they are qualified or have the right to demand someone to cater to what you like?

A review or critisms should only state and explain why you like or aint like something, but as soon as you say "you demand they do better" its discredits your whole argument because better is subjective

If you aint like endgame then you should be mad at yourself for watching 48 hours worth of movies over 10 years when its obvious you wasnt as into them as everyone else.. you should have known that 15 movies ago to be honest.

Her killing a giant on the brink of death makes no sense in the midst of a battle where people are fighting dead people, one being a giant, controlled by ice wizards while dragons fly above. Got it...that’s why her killing him doesn’t make sense.

:heh:

Her having her midsection crushed by a giant, but still being able to stab it, is ridiculous.
In earlier seasons Ned got stabbed in the leg and that had him sitting down for a while.
Lyanna was initially thrown aside by a giant, picked up and squeezed to the point we heard crunching, yet still was able to kill it.
How the hell is she even swinging her arms at that point? Why is the giant holding her up and staring at her, instead of just ruthlessly killing her like he would anyone else?
:camby:

That scene is ridiculous and wouldn't be in the show if the directors weren't trying to jam her in there so hard.

In the rules of that universe, yes it makes no sense.

Exactly, you'd have to be blindly defending the show try and argue that Lyanna's character/death wasn't fan service. The directors literally admitted it. But people will keep getting their Juelz on anyway.

Which is plot armor. Regardless what they faced with they gonna live. I mean they could have put them in a less terrible situation where they wasn’t covered in whites pressed against the wall

Sam on the ground stabbing whites with a knife :francis:
I was agreeing that it's plot armor, edited my post.

Fan service really means nothing. All people are saying is i recognize that reference, therefore it's bad. As if that isn't the entire point of a shared continuity. If there was no Fan Service, it would be just a bunch of films with no relationship to each other which would be terrible.
Imagine if Star Wars or the MCU was done like Final Fantasy, with each film the series being it's own separate universe having no connection to each other. What would be the point?

People complained about the avengers not showing up in Iron Man 3 to help Tony Stark protect the president but then turned around shouted fan service when Falcon showed up in Antman.:mindblown:

Fan service absolutely means something, seems like you have just run into people using it out of context. A good example of fan service would be in Justice League fans wanted to see a showdown between Superman and Wonder Woman. Or when Wolverine fans wanted to see him wear the costume at least once. In both cases "fan service" failed to be delivered to fans. You can also "rush" something in an attempt to give fan service which can hurt the execution:pachaha:

I loved Endgame, personally. It wasn't perfect, but I found it really enjoyable. And considering it's a finale of the greatest film saga I've ever seen, that only makes it more impressive.

That being said, I don't understand being upset at fans who critique films/tv shows. I don't know how it breaks down by generation or anything else, but everyone has the right to critique whatever they want. "Do better" is no more subjective than anything else. It's vague as all hell if left at that, but that doesn't make it illegitimate.
