Stuff like this is easy to say in retrospect...but when you have such an aura of invincibility around you like Mike had in the late-80's...you almost can't help but develop a type of arrogance that can led to bad habits all around for a fighter and his staff

Mike and his training staff probably went into that fight like...

"Buster douglas?"

3 Ko losses? A decision lost to Jessie Ferguson?

Just another easy KO1 to add to the dockett :smugbiden:

If they had've actually did a proper scouting report...and watched the Tucker & McCall fights they would've known duke was a problem skillwise & stylistically...But shyt, Williams, Spinks, Biggs & Tucker were supposed to be those stylistic threats as well...and they were ran thru with ease...

People seem to be getting offended at some of the Buster comments. Look, he was a good fighter and the fight surprised everyone that will go down in history.

However, literally every source/piece of evidence will back-up that Mike was not in his prime whatsoever; had not trained properly, and was surrounded by a bunch of clowns...

...and he still legit dropped Douglas :mindblown:

How that leads into 'Buster would've beat any Mike' is beyond me.

What was Tyson's prime in your opinion?

He said he didn't even like boxing after the 80s

Tyson was definitely in his prime at the time of the Douglas fight...by all measures...he just didn't train properly for the fight.

If you watch him a year later against Ruddock, it was the same ol' Tyson (in the 1st fight) came in motivated and well trained against an opponent who had alot of hype behind him and was seen as a legit threat...and proceeded to straight up walk right on thru Ruddock just like he did err'body else prior to facing Douglas...now in that 2nd Ruddock fight, he showed shades of the version of Mike that showed up against Douglas...a sluggish, undertrained brawler...who abandoned the offensive (& Defensive) technique(s) and fundamentals which got him to where he was...luckily for Mike, Ruddock didn't have Buster's skillset and was tailor made for Mike to be able to beat in a slugfest.

So ur saying tysons prime was before that fight?

A coincidence that he fought stiffs and bums?
buster was a stiff and a bum

Stiffs and Bums?:dwillhuh:

Yall really discredit the 80s Heavyweights alot:wow:

The "stiffs and bums" that Tyson fought would beat the HW's of today outside Wlad and Wilder:sas2:

There are fringe contenders that fought in the 80's that would look like Ali or Joe Louis when compared to Wilder :mjcry:

And there are several 80's Heavys that would hand Wlad a loss if they were matched up in the same era prime 4 prime.

It's funny how a dude like Tony Tubbs was considered a mid-to-low tier Heavyweight contender during the 80's...but a blown up Middleweight Tony Tubbs clone like Byrd is considered an "elite" Heavyweight in the Klitschko era...Eddie Chambers fights like a tinier, less skilled, shorter armed, less powerful version of Tubbs too and he's a borderline top 5 win for Wlad.

Tubbs just might be better than anyvbody Wlad has ever faced...but just barely is a top 10 win for Tyson in the so-called "weak" era that he supposedly fought in...

Look at the fluidity, slickness & technique of Tubbs

when was the last time we saw a Heavyweight that fought like this? Outside of the inferior Tubbs clones Chris Byrd & Eddie Chambers...THIS was considered a mid-to-low tier Heavyweight in Tyson's era :wow:

razor could have won that second fight with tyson if he hadn't regressed so much.by regressed i mean forgot that he had a great jab and fell in love with his power...all he wanted to do was hit that nikka with "the smash" anywhere he could for 12 rounds :russ:

tyson-ruddock 2 though :wow: :whoo: :whew:..what a fukking slugfest that was..my favorite tyson fight

I was talking in the Floyd/Manny thread about Tyrell Biggs and his footwork in the 1st couple of rounds. Dude was gliding around like a Coke-Zero version of Ali:banderas:

What is somebody like Chris Arreola gonna do with that? Bermane Stiverne?:usure:

Michael Spinks would destroy these boys....Tyson beat him 1 round:wow:

Stiffs and Bums?:mjlol:

This deserves it's own thread for real. Razor Ruddock would be a force today:obama:

Is Kubrat Pulev gonna beat him?:heh:

The 80s heavies were very talented..what gives them their rep is so many of them fell victim to their vices and or bullshyt. Buster was far from a bum. He had physical talent for days. His problem was just he had problems sustaining motivation and effort. It was all mental with him.

Exactly. And as a true fan of Boxing and it's history, to sit back and let people call Tyson's opponents bums or talk down on the 80s HWs is not gonna happen.

70s HWs > 90s HWs > 80s HWs > 2000 HWs > 2010 HWs :manny:
