The 80s heavies were very talented..what gives them their rep is so many of them fell victim to their vices and or bullshyt. Buster was far from a bum. He had physical talent for days. His problem was just he had problems sustaining motivation and effort. It was all mental with him.

Boxing wasn't his passion. His pops pushed him to fight. He was a natural but wanted nothing to do with boxing. Apparently he was a great basketball player. :ehh:

for a small guy with short reach tysons inside game was horrible. :scust:
Stuff like this is easy to say in retrospect...but when you have such an aura of invincibility around you like Mike had in the late-80's...you almost can't help but develop a type of arrogance that can led to bad habits all around for a fighter and his staff

Mike and his training staff probably went into that fight like...

"Buster douglas?"

3 Ko losses? A decision lost to Jessie Ferguson?

Just another easy KO1 to add to the dockett :smugbiden:

If they had've actually did a proper scouting report...and watched the Tucker & McCall fights they would've known duke was a problem skillwise & stylistically...But shyt, Williams, Spinks, Biggs & Tucker were supposed to be those stylistic threats as well...and they were ran thru with ease...
smack, who is this nikka?

What was Tyson's prime in your opinion?
tysons prime ended the day kevin rooney left his camp
so the michael spinks fight
i dont know if any heavyweight ever coulda beat tyson that night

his following fight was against frank bruno if my memory serves me correct, and you could already see the decline. he was getting tagged and fighting sloppy even tho he still knocked him the fukk out brutually:wow:
from then on, he was fighting on natural talent for the most part. he was smoking drinking partying snorting and doing a whole bunch of wild shyt and he was still koing nikkas that were training everyday and 100 percent focused:wow:

tyson wasnt good on the inside. he held too much and led with his head first and squared up. compare his inside game to james toney :comeon: most of his damage was done mid range before he got on the inside and tied up.

im not talking shyt lol just watch his fights

Tyson probably had the shortest "prime" for any legendary fighter ever:snoop:

That's the problem with hypothetically matching him up with everyone....he had no significant "run" to discuss because it was only for about 4-5 years:wow:

Let's not forget though, "Prime" Tyson struggled with James Tillis:manny:

I'm not sure what round it was but after Mike knocked James on his ass with that crazy ass hook, James got on that bicycle. Tillis had good quick hands and a strong beard and was probably in the best shape of his life that night. He probably lost 8 of those 10 rounds but he stayed there and made Mike work.

I'm one of the bigger Tyson fans you'll ever meet. He's the reason why I got into the game. But I'm not an apologist. The Douglas fight was a fukkin' disgrace. He couldn't put together combos and he was terribly out of shape. Douglas deserved that W and he was right to cash in by fighting Evander next.
