This is an exact description of the U.S film industry. We have over 40,000,000 Blacks in the U.S, yet not a single real Black family soap, not one. Same with movies, almost no new Black male actors get leads in anything. Denzel, Will ect are veteran exceptions. shyt the realest portrayel of U.S slavery ever in film was just made by a Black British director, w/ a Black British lead. No American was making 12 Years a Slave like McQueen.

Not sure what to say to that, cos living in America for a few years as a kid, there were a ton of black sitcoms from the Cosby show to Roc (which was criminally underrated imo) that i could watch. I'm surprised that there's nothing now, especially considering how much larger the black population is in America compared to ours.

Don't you have any other black TV channels apart from BET?

Exactly, so it's not a good thing when they don't even show the other half.. The 'darkest' love interest of a black man on TV is a mixed raced woman. Black love is very rare on screen.

:dead: Have you seen Waterloo Road? Damn near every character of colour is mixed.

:patrice: As a black man living in England I always thought that we were represented fairly well, better than in many other countries at least. I can turn on my television and I can see black men in a number of roles that break away from regular stereotypes. I will say this though, you wont see too many black women (non mixed) on TV over here.
yeah even in movies, they rather use mixed women than black women for some reason

They're trying to phase us out with this 'mixed race is the new black' shyt. Obviously I'm not speaking against mixed race people :whoa: just to make that very clear, but Asians are about twice our population in numbers and you don't them promoting interracial relationships nearly as much as they do with us. You may have a British born Asian couple or family on TV who are as english as they come, but at least they still have ties to their cultural roots and celebrate their heritage. You don't see that with us at all. In fact, when do try to hold fast to our roots, they use shaming tactics and make it seem like it's something wrong. You get stuff like "why don't you call yourself 'British' instead of <<<insert family background>>>, yet in REALITY, take a look at the comments section in all the online outlets and see what they really think about us, whether we're born here or not. :rudy: Only black people can't celebrate who they are, every other culture can.

If I wanted to cast a black woman in a TV series or film based in the UK I'd be hard pressed to come up with just five of the top of my head. America handles black actresses far better than we do over here.

And that's really saying something, because the situation with black actresses is bad enough in America as it is.

In fact, now that I remember in the first season of Luther, that girl who played Ashley Walter's love interest in Life and Lyrics had a brief role as a news presenter. For a split second, I thought they were going to develop something between the both of them, then I remembered what country I'm in lol. It's a shame cos she's really pretty and could have been used in a lot more roles in film, considering she's Crystal Rose's daughter.

As talented as Idris is, the one who I would have sworn down was American is the guy who played Said in Oz.

I can still hear the East London dialect in Idris' voice, but Eamon Walker as Said totally nailed that role.
