There’s no point to the Rooney Rule. It’s not effective.

Can’t imagine the mental toll it takes to prepare for an interview, knowing there is a high likelihood the organization is just going through the motions
Exactly. Like white owners Interviewing a Black candidate are going to leave an interview with an epiphany and say “WOW!! I had no clue the Black candidate I just interviewed was so capable! Thanks Rooney Rule! I had no clue prior to this!!”

It took damn near 100 years for the cac owners and coaches to not sabotage black QBs and let them rock. Black coaching and General Manager candidates still don't get a fair shake. The Rooney Rule was a step in the right direction, but ironically the only team to be completely thorough in the interview, hiring and job review process is the same team that created the rule in the first place is the Steelers with Mike Tomlin.

It's not even just Flores:
  • Looks like the Jags is about to throw Jacksonville legend Leftwich to the bushes for Kevin O'Connell.
  • Eric Bienemy is passed over every single year.
  • Herm Edwards had 3 playoff appearances in 5 years; fired for Eric Mangini who only lasted 3 seasons
  • Jim Caldwell one SB appearance with Indy, but fired after Manning injury season and didn't get a chance with Luck. Fired after 10 win season in DET; fired for Matt Patricia who only lasted 3 seasons despite backing from Stafford and locker room
  • Lovie Smith had an SB appearance (all he needed was a QB); fired for Marc Trestman who only lasted 2 seasons despite backing from Brian Urlacher and locker room
  • And countless others
In the off chance a black coach gets hired they get placed in shytty situations and are expected to turn shyt into gold. Then to make it even more fukked up even if they do a good job there is still no security and will be let go so the team can find "their" guy. Front offices have literally self-sabotaged their teams in the process.

The fact that Flores waited to do this on the first day of Black History Month and on the day of the first annual HBCU Combine :ehh:

Put everybody on notice from the front office to the locker room to the future players, coaches and staff. Symbolic gestures ain't enough.
Somebody has to stand up to the white supremacist shield.

SINY!!
Super Bowl week......the fukkery.

I really want to see what happens with the half-time show. Yes the show is good promo for the projects that Dre, Em, Snoop, Kendrick, and Mary have coming out. It also boxes them into a corner. Walk off/dont do the performance and risk a lawsuit for breach of contract by the NFL (which they may not do because of the backlash it may cause).......or give up the promo and take a stand on the issue. I am really curious to how this plays out.

The main issue is that it doesn't address the systemic nature of how fukked up it is with hiring coordinators as well. There's also only 2 current black OCs I know off the top of my head and the NFL is all about hiring OCs. Everyone McVay hired for multiple years got HC jobs immediately with teams willing to back the fukk outta them meanwhile Culley gets a job, does an incredible job of overachieving, and even folks here are like "Well he knew it was just a one time thing". It took Culley how many years to get a shot at that job?? That's the point. When did Todd Bowles first get a shot? Or Frazier? Or how old was Caldwell at his first job? Kliff got hired off a mediocre showing at a Big 12 mid tier university.

It needs to be a black coach doing the same thing the white ones do and start hiring folks like Dungy did. Tomlin's entire staff should be all black folks just like Culley did. Tomlin could've done something a little different and hired a black OC, but instead got the OC from Indiana University which don't make no sense to me. Brian Arians is the only coach with black coordinators besides Culley.

Watch a black coach get hired within the next week, because the NFL is SO predictable

If your a black man who is offered a head coaching job or an executive title.....do you even want it? Knowing that you weren't the first choice, and that your hire is solely a PR stunt? It puts a lot of minority candidates in an uncomfortable place.

Which is the team that started the Rooney Rule

And no one seems to care until it’s too big to ignore. Then we get some bullshyt donation to some charity. A bunch of weak ass rule changes and a smack on the ass.
